I have heard that it is not good for baby's to drink apple juice because it is bad for their teeth. I want to buy some baby apple juice for Rylee because she LOVES apple sauce and I know that she will like the juice, but I am a little afraid to buy it.

Avoiding the dangers of fruit juice

By Tink on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 - 09:18 pm:

I think, like in most things, moderation is key. I let my kids have approximently 6 oz at breakfast or at their afternoon snacktime. My kids love cold water bottles out of the fridge and drink this most of the time. They have milk (chocolate about 1/2 the time) at meals. I always watered juice down for my kids until they were about 2. I would also suggest doing this out of a regular cup because my oldest dd had a cavity in each of her front two teeth because of juice out of a sippy cup.

We had to give DD a little bit of juice as an infant because of constipation. I just watered it down a bit. She still drinks juice. She usually has one juice box a day, unless she is eating a lot of fruit, then we skip it. DD had juice in a bottle as an infant, and in a sippy as a toddler, and now in a juice box. We never had any issues. She has no cavities, and she was glued to her bottles! I say go for it and give it a shot. I agree with Tink, moderation is key.:)

We allow about 4 oz a day for the kids. We water it down, they started on 1/4 apple juice, now it's about 2/3 apple juice.

I was very careful with juice, because I knew someone personally who went "overboard" with giving their DD juice. Once she hit about 4 years old, all of her front teeth were brown and rotting. It was very gross and very sad. Her DD drank a lot of juice from bottles and sippy cups. She also went to bed with a bottle (formula not juice) which probably contributed to the problem as well.
I think that a bit of juice now and then for a baby is fine. My kids are older now and really love juice. They drink at least a glass a day. But, they brush their teeth 2-3 times a day too!

Juice is fattening and processed as pure sugar. When my son drinks orange juice (a small amt everyday) he drinks it through a straw to get it passed his teeth. When he was little I rarely gave him juice and, if so, half water and never in a bottle, always in a cup with a straw (we never did sippy cups). He didn't become a daily OJ drinker until he was 5 or so. He has never had a cavity. He doesn't have a weight problem. You will see a lot of kids with the early weight problems are kids who drink a lot of juice.

In general fruit and the juice has a lot of sugar, but there are also good vitamins. As for juice, make sure you are giving your child 100% juice, not the corn syrup and water stuff with some fruit flavoring (boy that looks spelled wrong). I think a glass of juice everyday is fine. All of my kids did the baby juice thing for awhile to help with constipation mostly, habit some. My kids have good teeth and are healthy. In general we drink water around my house, they have milk on occasion, and juice every now and again. I will make koolaid on hot hot days when I am feeling really nice :) Kids need a balanced diet, anything not in moderation is bad.

My girls drink mostly milk, more water, some juice (only because that is not their favorite drink) My girls are very healthy and drink probably about 5 cups of milk a day (at least), but are not overweight. Juice is good for helping move their bowels, I think their dr. said no more than 4 oz. a day is recommended. Also he said not to put juice in a bottle because it may (and could) rot their teeth if they fall asleep with it in their mouth (same with anything to drink though except water). Anyway good luck! That's good she likes applesauce. I wish I could get my girls to eat more fruit.:)

I always added water to dilute the juice. That was when she was a baby.

I don't dilute it any more. We use Juicy Juice. I allow DD one glass of juice a day -- if she is in the mood for it. Sometimes she could drink it all day, but one is the limit. Other than that, she drinks water. Milk doesn't agree with her.

I gave Rylee juice yesterday and watered it down. She loves it!!! She had white grape juice. I think for now, she will get about three times a week, if that. I am trying to get her to drink water, but she will not drink it. I just put it in a sippie cup and if she wants it, she can have it. She likes to play with the cup when she is done eating lunch, and I give it to her when Chris and I are eating dinner. If anything, it keeps her occupied.

My four kids all loved apple juice and white grape juice. I usually diluted it a little because it does have alot of sugar. Their teeth are all fine. Moderation is the key, as with anything else.

I can't stand the smell of it anymore! :)

I give ds alot of water. I down it like a nut in the car. I keep a case in the car from the dairy barn.

Ds prefers water now. (I slowly got sick of the sippy cups) I started with the small crystal geyster water with the sports top for him.

He get juice like 2 times a week now. I would rather him have a glass of milk at dinner.
