Do you save the underwear with BM accidents?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: Do you save the underwear with BM accidents?
By Eve on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 02:59 pm:

Just curious here. I tossed the underwear out and then I thought "Hmmm, how many more pairs will I toss out?" Do you toss them or keep them? If you keep them, do you soak them? I don't want to throw them in with my regular laundry. I'd love any advice you may have.:)

Uggh, I hate potty training!

I just kept Clorox on hand, and did a bit of soaking. It sure beat buying new underwear!

By Feona on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 04:36 pm:

I throw them out if we are out. Else I wash them by themselves with alittle bleach. I think I tossed 4 pairs?

By Dawnk777 on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 04:40 pm:

I just washed the underwear and they kept right on wearing it! I would wash it in the sink, since it usually needed extra scrubbing anyway. They both survived this. It really isn't any different from wearing cloth diapers that would be reused.

I tossed them, but honestly when i was potty training i was lucky enough to have hard wood floors so i put a long tshirt on dd and no undies or daipers during the day. Don't know what i will do with ds now since we have carpet!

If they were really bad I tossed them but otherwise I quickly hand washed with oxiclean and then threw them in with the regular wash.

By Happynerdmom on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 06:11 pm:

It depended on my mood and energy level at the time! Tossed quite a few...LOL

By Truestori on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 06:37 pm:

Well,

The dollar store had lots of 2T underoo's at the time so we tossed them!

By Bellajoe on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 08:42 pm:

I never even thought of throwing them out! LOL ! I just dumped the *stuff* in the toilet, rinsed the rest off (eeew!), soaked them and washed them in the washing machine.

I guess if it would have happened while we were out, i would have thrown them away. But when we went out, I put pull-ups on him/her.

Ditto, Bellajoe. It never crossed my mind to toss them out. I just soaked them and did a wash cycle by themselves with bleach and then rewashed with a full load.

I also soaked, scrubed and washed them. Unless they were really bad..... Then they went into the trash. You could be going through a lot of panty buying if you toss every pair she has a BM in. LOL And in no time potty training will be a faint memory that you will remember hating going through but details will be fleating.. LOL

Yes, you would be throwing out a lot. I agree with those who say soak, wash, and re-wear. And, as part of the potty training, if she notices that some of the underwear is slightly stained, you can tell her that its because she had a BM in her pants, and when she no longer has BMs in her pants and uses the potty/toilet like a big girl, you will thrown them out and buy new. pretty underpants. But I'd wait until she brings it up - I'm sure she will notice at some point. Then, after that discussion, when you are in a store you can point out some really pretty underpants and tell her, that's the kind we will get when you are a "big girl".

But if they are badly stained after washing, I probably would toss them.

Add me to the bunch who washed them and kept them unless they were really bad, then I tossed them.

By Mommyathome on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 - 11:02 am:

Always tossed them. For some reason I couldn't stomach cleaning them out. Though, I don't have a problem with changing diapers. Just the thought, I guess.
It only happened a time or two. I suppose if it happened repeatedly that I would have to start re-using them. That could get expensive!

By Marcia on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 - 04:31 pm:

I washed them, too. I only tossed them if they were in really bad shape.

By Audreyj on Thursday, July 29, 2004 - 01:16 pm:

With my first child, I soaked and washed them in Clorox, with my second child, I tossed them. I guess it just depends on your energy level. At my house, BM accidents didn't happen a lot so I decided to just toss them, especially when I had "another bell to answer" it just seemed easier.
