Teething at 12 weeks????

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2004: Teething at 12 weeks????

I know every baby is different, but I was just curious if any of you have ever had infants that started teething at 12 weeks old? My DS (who just turned 12 wks today) is a drooling mess! In addition, he will suck on the bottle for awhile and then scream out as if in pain, suck awhile, push it out, scream some more. It is almost as if he is chewing on the nipple, because the "tongue movements" he makes are no longer sucking gestures...they are more like chewing as if he were eating from a spoon. He has also had mild diahrrea off and on for a few days now. It is weird b/c it is not w/every bowel movement...just some.

I tried to get a peek in his mouth today and I swear I saw a little white nubby in the bottom left gum (not the front teeth but the next ones over...not a dentist...sorry!) Anyway, have any of you ever experienced this or know of someone that has? I can't remember what teething was like with DD (she is almost 4...and I think I have lost many brain cells since then due to stress!)

Both of my little girls started teething at 12 weeks. They both would get diarrhea on and off, a runny nose, excessive drooling, cough due to the drooling, very fussy. I always made sure I gave them Advil when they took their nap and at bedtime so they could sleep. It is very hard for them to sleep because of the pain. Oragel and things like that never worked.

Most babies get the 2 bottom ones first.

Good luck

Most babies get the bottom two first... but not all. My daughter cut her back molars first....never thought to look there!

My oldest ds got his first tooth when he was just 4 months old. He started teething around 3 months. So, yes it is possible to start teething at this age.

All babies are different. My friend ds at 9 months got his first set of teeth & they were top molars. My ds started teething at just over 3 months.

My youngest daughter got her front bottom teeth right when she turned 4 months. I stopped breastfeeding her at about 5 1/2 months because she was biting me.

Yep it is likely teething. My ds got his front bottom teeth a few weeks ago. Some babies seem to teethe forever...hard on us mom's. Others only seem to teethe for a couple of days before they pop their first tooth. :)

My oldest daughter and my youngest daughter both cut there teeth real early. Josie started cutting hers when she was between 9 -12 weeks and she didn't fuss or show really any symptoms of teeth cutting. I was rubbing her gums and surprise she had a small tooth poking out. In my opinion babies who cut there teeth early than they should tend to have bad teeth when they are bigger. I know my oldest she has had a lot of teeth work done and is not finished and Josie she is almost 3 and has 1 cap already and due for a check up again.
