My 6yo DD is on a form of Septra for what they think is a UTI....she only has one more day to take it but like an idiot I forgot the part about prolonged exposure to sunlight....school had an outside thing yesterday and she was out for a little while today....what started as a slight rash on her chest this morning is slowly spreading all over her body....I read this is the normal response to prolonged sunlight on this medicine.....so now I am just trying to do all I can to keep her from feeling so itchy....really appriciate ANY ideas....thanks
Beth

Benadryl cream! Works fast!

Both my daughters have allergies and rashes. BENADRYL BENADRYL BENADRYL!! It works great, side effects are sleepiness. Your child will want a nap. My kids hate the taste and fuss when they have to take it so I follow it up with a "kiddie cup" of coca-cola to help "wash out" that "yucky" taste.

Oatmeal bath. Cup of oats in a sock in a lukewarm bath. Have her lay in it for about 15 min.

thanks for all of the rapid replies!!:)

We made it through the night. :) I gave her some benedryl and read somewhere else that vicks vapor rub alleviates the itching also....that worked from bedtime until around midnight...I put calamine lotion on her then...that lasted until 1:30 am and we were back in the bathtub taking an oatmeal bath.....up again at 4:40 and then 7:00. Hee Hee :) I'm exhausted. She's handling it okay! I feel AWFUL!!!!! I mean,I just feel really bad for forgetting the sunlight thing...should've sent a note...
My next question is....does anybody know how long this rash/itchy thing takes to go away???

Beth
