Just For Today

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2004: Just For Today
By Marcia on Thursday, May 20, 2004 - 09:41 am:

Just for this morning, I am
going to step over t he laundry,
and pick you up and take you to the park to
play.

Just for this morning, I will
leave the dishes in the sink,
and let you teach me how to put that puzzle
of yours together.

Just for this afternoon, I will
unplug the telephone and
keep the computer off, and sit with you in the
backyard and blow bubbles.

Just for this afternoon, I will
not yell once, not even a
tiny grumble when
yo u scream and whine for the ice
cream truck, and I will buy you one if
he comes by.

Just for this afternoon, I won't
worry about what you are
going to be when you grow up, or second guess
every decision I have made
where you are concerned.

Just for this afternoon, I will let
you help me bake cookies, and I won't
stand over you trying to fix them.
Just for this afternoon, I will take
us to McDonald's and buy us both a
Happy Meal so you can have both toys.

Just for this evening, I will hold
you in my arms and tell you a story
about how you were born and how
much I love you.

Just for this evening, I will let
you splash in the tub and
not get angry.

Just for this evening, I will let
you stay up late while we sit on the
porch and count all the stars.

Just for this evening, I will
snuggle beside you for hours,
and miss my favorite TV shows.
Just for this evening when I run
my finger through your hair
as you pray, I will simply be grateful that God
has given me the greatest gift ever
given.

I will think about the mothers
And fathers who are searching
for their missing children,
the mothers and fathers who are
visiting their children's graves
instead of their bedrooms, and mothers and
fathers who are in hospital rooms watching
their children suffer senselessly, and screaming inside that they can't
handle it anymore.

And when I kiss you good night I
will hold you a little tighter, a
little longer. It is then, that I will
thank God for you, and ask
him for nothing, except one more day.............

That is beautiful...thank you for sharing that. It made me cry. Then again I'm pregnant so everything makes me cry :).

That is so beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes, so it must not just be a preggo thing. :) Really reminds you to be grateful for all you have right this minute.

I was moved to tears as well!

It's hard to type when you can't see the keys through the tears ... that is so beautiful. It really puts things into perspective and shows you what's really important. Thank you for posting this.

Made me cry, too! I've been feeling a bit guilty of being online and not spending a lot of time with DD. I think it has to do with her 1st bday coming up and it just seems like its flown by. Now im getting off the computer and am going to watch Kaitlyn destroy her clean room, as she does everyday! :)

By Fionadeassis on Thursday, May 20, 2004 - 08:15 pm:

Pregnant ladies beware!! I am bawling right now!! That was so beautiful Marcia!

Today was a chilly rainy day. Me and Ds(4) went out in the rain and found worms and dropped them down the gutter(his idea-not mine! LOL). We made dams in the gutter then broke them and watched the water pour down the sewers.....then we went into the backyard and found a spiderweb. I remembered that there was a dead fly on Ds's windowsill(a testament to my great housecleaning!)..I took a pair of tweezers(Dh's-not mine! LOL) and brought the fly outside and threw it in the spiderweb.......the spider hasn't eaten it yet-I think they only eat live bugs...but it was fun!! Then we came in the house, cuddled on the couch and ate donuts and watched scooby doo.....

But usually I am the mom on the computer saying-"hang on! hang on! in a minute" when Ds wants to play......

I think I will print that out Marcia and put it on my wall to remember!!!

yes, I cried, and I think that's the most beautiful poem I've read in a long time. Might do the same thing as Fiona, and print and post that up on the wall, and hey, I'm going to turn that into wall paper for my comp!! LOL

By Palmbchprincess on Friday, May 21, 2004 - 04:44 pm:

I've read that before, and it always touches my heart. I think I'm going to print it out too... Thanks!!
