My very dear son said a very nice thing

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2004: My very dear son said a very nice thing
By Ginny~moderator on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 - 09:08 pm:

It should come as no surprise (certainly not to anyone who knows me) that I am an overanxious mother. And that I have struggled with my youngest, especially after he "moved back in", to be a mom and not a mommy.

But, usually when he goes out, I say, good night, have a good time, and, drive carefully. Tonight I asked him if he minded my saying every time "drive carefully".

That dear son responded no, I take it as benediction.

I never minded my Mom saying it. In fact she asks for at least one ring when we go on vacation, just to let her know we are safe.

We always did the one ring signal, also! I felt very loved when my mom would say "Don't forget to ring when you get home". LOL :)

It's funny, that's one of the things I miss most about my mom. She always called to see if I made it home safely.

I think this is so nice Ginny. And DS (12) will call me from his friends just to check on me. LOL Just a quick call and never wants anything just to see if I haven't run off yet. LOL

I always loved it when my mom would say this and now I say it to dh everytime he leaves the house. I think its a nice way to say you care. It's great that your ds realizes the spirit in which it is said.

That is a nice thing. My mom and I live 45 minutes away from each other and I always call her when I get home or she calls me when she gets home.

i call my mom when she leaves here or she calls me if i have not called her when i leave there ! :)
I make my daughter call when she goes anywhere in the neighbor hood here !

I live 3000 miles away from my parents. My sister is not much closer. We are still expected to call to let our parents know we are safe any time we have traveled. Remember, there is a three hour time difference between here and there. Doesn't matter. They want to know their girls are safe. LOL, dh doesn't even insist on me calling if I happen to travel without him! What can you do? I find it very sweet. :)

I find it sweet too! :)

I tell everyone to drive safe. I've even caught myself telling my boss this.
