Well we spent all night in the hospital, she appaarently has appendicitis. THey let her come home for 8 hours to sleep before seeing the surgeon since she wasn't running a temp. So we are off to the hospital again here shortly. Has anyone had a child that had the appendix taken out? Is it scary for them and how long did the surgery take?

No experience with that here. Just many hugs for you and your daughter. I'm sure everything will be just fine as this is a common surgery. (((hugs))) Please let us know how everything goes! :)

Poor thing! I hope it all goes well.

More {{{HUGS}}} and prayers coming your way! Please keep us posted.

{{{Kenna and DD}}} I have no experience with it, I have known people who have had them taken out. And with all the new technology I think it is a lot easier now then years ago.
Keep us posted.

Wow, my thoughts are with you. My 2 year old has had a total of 6 surgeries with 1 to go . I am always a nervous wreck even though I know that they know what they are doing. Just hold onto your dh, because he will need you too. I am glad you caught it before they burst!

I had mine out when I was 15. Mine ruptured, so I can tell you that getting it out before that happens is a GOOD thing! I spend 8 days in the hospital and many many weeks from school. Overall I think it is a pretty standard surgery, you deal with anesthesia and then some recovery. My only odd thing is I had some issue with soreness there for years, if i ever got hit right in that spot it hurt. I had an issue with some nerves that eventually "popped" when I was 8 mo pg with my first child. All of my worst stories are completely related to the rupture, not losing the appy. Also I couldn't drive for 6 weeks...a life time for a 15 year old!

Hugs and prayers to you and your daughter, Kenna! As if you needed any more excitement in your life! I'm sure everything will be fine, keep us posted.

Just checking in, Kenna. I hope everything is going well today. :)

Yes, they have decided to wait on the surgery, she was feeling better today, still a little sore but she isn't running a fever so they want to be sure before they operate. She has to stay home a few days so we can watch her. She is moving around a little more now though.

By Palmbchprincess on Monday, May 17, 2004 - 07:24 pm:

Kenna,
I'm glad to hear she can avoid surgery right now. I hope she's feeling better soon!!! Big hugs to you both!!

By Dana on Monday, May 17, 2004 - 08:16 pm:

Good luck to you both. No experience at all. Just thinking of you.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Monday, May 17, 2004 - 09:37 pm:

Good luck to you both from me too. Big hugs and no experience either..

Keeping her in my prayers. Other than ear tubes once, my kids haven't had any other surgery.

By Debbie on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 - 09:39 am:

Your poor dd. How is she doing?? I will be thinking of you.

By Ladypeacek on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 - 09:51 am:

She is still pretty sore but they are not 100% sure yet if its her appendix. They think it might be her pancreas now! They have been running alot of tests but she did go to school today, she has to avoid gym and the playground. The teacher will call if she starts to complain at all. I think she pulled a stomach muscle but the dr's just ignore me! She did a 5k walk a thon friday and then was on bouncy castles all weekend. But of course there were lots of bad things going on in the blood tests so i guess i could be wrong! I guess right now we are just waiting to see what happens in the next few days.

My brother just had problems with his pancreas. They put him on a liquid diet & kept him in the hospital over night. It can be caused by a high fat diet, to much alcohol, or medication. You may them to check her for an ulcer, I think the symptoms are very close.

By Trisa on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 - 10:36 am:

Poor thing. I will be praying for her.
