To Troy or not to Troy?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2004: To Troy or not to Troy?
By Janet on Friday, May 14, 2004 - 10:54 am:

My 14 yr old dd just found out that the upcoming "Troy" is rated R. AAARRGH! You could hear her cries of anguish in the next county! The love object of her life (and all teen girls), Orlando Bloom, is starring in it! I HAVE to see it, Mom! You don't understand!! (Oh sure. I was never a teenage girl. You're right. So glad I have you do explain it.)
For me, "R" is off limits for a girl her age, regardless of who is in it. I also survived the agony of her being the only 9 yr old girl in her class to NOT have seen "Titanic" when it came out, so I will survive this. Anyone in the same boat?

By Mommyathome on Friday, May 14, 2004 - 11:03 am:

Well, as you said, you survived the "Titanic" issue, so I'm sure you'll (both) survive "Troy".

I would really stick to my guns if I were you. If you let it slide this time, then she will know that *the gate has been opened* and she'll try getting all kinds of things through!

I'm really sad that I don't even know who Orlando Bloom is.....never even heard the name until now! LOL

By Ladypeacek on Friday, May 14, 2004 - 11:06 am:

Tell her you will buy it for her the very second she turns 18, lol! I don't know who orlando bloom is either! LOL IN fact i haven't even heard of the movie, but i guess cuz i am in England and we are months behind.

I have a 14 year old son and no to R here too.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, May 14, 2004 - 11:54 am:

One of my friends took her 15 yo son to see Titanic. LOL! My kids were too young and didn't care. They have seen bits and pieces of it, since we own the dvd, but I don't think either one has sat down to watch the whole thing. My 14yo hasn't asked to see Troy. I'm not interested in Troy myself, so it's not really an issue at my house. I don't think I would want her to see it, either. So, why is it "R"? Violence? Sex? I have no clue.

By Mommmie on Friday, May 14, 2004 - 12:11 pm:

Orlando Bloom is a hottie. He was in Lord Of The Rings (the long blond hair dude) and he was in Pirates of the Caribbean (Depp's buddy) and a few others I haven't seen. Cutie-patootie.

My son doesn't really care for movies so I don't have this issue, thank goodness.

By Bellajoe on Friday, May 14, 2004 - 12:12 pm:

If you saw Pirates of the Caribbean, Orlando Bloom was Will Turner (the love interest of the pretty girl Elisabeth Swan) I have the movie and watched it a million times so I know the names fo the characters :) He was the guy with the long blond hair in Lord Of the Rings (not so good looking in that one).

I am guessing Troy is rated R for violence. I have no desire to see it either, although Orlando and Brad Pitt are both in it :)

Troy

I didn't read the whole thing, but did see there's nudity and graphic violence. Stick to your guns. You'll both survive. :)

By Janet on Friday, May 14, 2004 - 12:41 pm:

Orlando Bloom is "elf boy" in our house (dd HATES that I call him that, LOL). I think he's cute and all (in a boyish sort of way--I like men personally), but I wouldn't pass out if he looked my way. No, I'm gonna stick to my guns, I was just sharing. I am such a MEAN MOM!!!

I heard that Brad Pitt has a lot of nudity in the movie. Something about him turning 40 and won't have that body forever so he isisted on doing his own nude scenes.

I think I would stand on this one too, for sure.

Brad Pitt naked? Think I will go see the movie LOL!!

Yeap, just what I thought. WAAAAY too much violence for my daughter or myself to watch. Probably also too much skin, but the violence would bother me worse. I don't do war movies.
