DD & Bell Peppers-kinda weird

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2004: DD & Bell Peppers-kinda weird
By Insaneusmcwife on Friday, April 23, 2004 - 11:02 am:

OK, I don't know that it bothers me but it is kind of weird. The other night while my cousin was making dinner my daughter wanted some of the bell pepper that was being chopped up. She ate it and really liked it. Well yesterday she got into the fridge and was eating a whole large green bell pepper like it was an apple. I told her it wasn't an apple and she insisted on eating the whole thing. Well now this a.m. I went into her room and she had gotten the frozen bell pepper strips out of the freezer and ate half the bag. I guess I should be grateful that she bypassed the chocolate bunnies but I am left wondering if she is lacking something??? She has never like them before and my son won't touch them.

No.....that's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

My Ds is on the other end of the spectrum and would never TOUCH any vegetables if he could help it.

I have gone through phases where I ate tons of zuchini and also raw brocolli.

Maybe she is craving vitamin C after the long winter...but you don't have to go out of your way to provide her with any-she is doing it herself!!

Now go buy a big bag of peppers and let her go at it!

Well, I have a ds that will sit and eat a plate of bell peppers sliced, grape tomatoe (whatever you call them), and carrot sticks with Ranch dressing for dip. He also will eat salad and often asks for salad at resturaunts. LOL My friends are always like 'What in the world did you do to that boy?' LOL Your dd may have hust discovered she likes them. Just teach her to eat them after you have sliced them for her and put some dip with them. I dont guess I would be too worried, but I could be wrong.

Ds also eats black olives and green olives. Dh and I both love to eat all of these foods I've mentioned and alot of fruit. So I dont think its unusual that my kids will eat many of these things.

Oldest ds started eating tomatoes like they were apples when he was 2. I would just take it and slice it for him, give him a plate to put them on and he would eat tomato slices. LOL He loves sliced tomato to this day. (almost 12) But wont eat pickles. My middle ds will eat pickles but not tomatoes. Youngest ds will anything you put in front of him except eggs. Older two LOVE eggs??? LOL

Ok sorry I keep rambling on here today!!

It's just a new food that she discovered she likes, so she wants a lot of it, i guess!

When i was about 6 or 7 my friend who was the same age would eat raw green bell peppers like a apple also, i thought it was gross, but hey it's a veggie just let her go for it!

My kids love tomatos, cherry, grape, whatever! They pick the peas from our garden in the summer and eat them right there, they do the same with my mother in law's fava beans ( i think that is what they are called) and the same with the tomatos we grow!

If she is anything my ds she will eat, eat, & eat them for 2 months & then not anything to do with them. Then a few months later decide to eat them again.

If there is one thing I have learned as a mom is never question a good thing! LOL. That is great that she loves them so much!

My middle child loves them as well! (she's 4) I'll be chopping onions for casseroles and have onion tears streaming down my face, and she'll be sitting right by me sneaking as many pieces as she can. She also loves green bell peppers and yellow ones too. He favorite is banana peppers from Taco Time. LOL At first we thought she was a nut....but I guess it's better than candy :) You'll definitely be having her brush more often LOL It's weird to talk to a small child with onion breath!

I love fresh bell peppers! I'm always snitching pieces if I'm cutting them up for something!

Nothing wrong with you DD eating them. My DD who is 3 loves the sweet peppers they put on hoagies, and also loves canned mushrooms. We thought it was kind of weird but as everyone said its better then junk foods.

I don't think theres anything wrong with it, it is just weird to see a 2 y.o. walking around the house eating a bell pepper like it is an apple. She is a very weird child, come on now what 2 yo pass up ice cream, milky way bunnies and snickers eggs for a bag of frozen bell peppers, she is her fathers child because I have no will power when it comes to chocolate. I say she gets her weirdness from her daddy, she says she gets it from me, I just don't see it, lol.

Jeff was like that when he was young. He would eat carrots, celery or raw potatoes for dessert! He just plain did not like sweets!

By Bobbie on Friday, April 23, 2004 - 09:43 pm:

Callie is that way too. She will eat sweets but if she can get veggies. She will eat those.. One of those situations, Don't sweat the small stuff...
