DS, 5 months, bottle fed, will only accept this one type of nipple

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2004: DS, 5 months, bottle fed, will only accept this one type of nipple

I cannot find a duplicate for this nipple anywhere. I am sure it has been discontinued. Ds prefers the one and only nipple I have. Not prefers demands. Believe it or not I have been using this one nipple since he started bottle feeding a couple months back. He gets really upset if I change the nipple. It is not a big deal because when the time comes he will have no choice. This single nipple can only last so long LOL. Just wanted to share. BABIES!

My son was the same way. He only wanted the Playtex orthodontic nipple. He wouldn't drink from anything else! I had a hard time finding them, and when I did, I bout a case! I still have some for baby #2. The same thing happened with his pacifier. Evenflo makes a great one that does not leave a mark on the baby's face. Walmart was the only place that had them, and they stopped carrying them. I was able to order them directly from the company.
Maybe you can call the company that makes the nipple and order a bunch directly.
If they truly don't make them anymore, try giving him one feeding a day (when he's at his hungriest) with another type, then gradually increase.
Is it the shape you can't find or the rate of flow? You can always make a slower nipple faster by making the hole a little bigger.
Hope this helps!

I had the same thing happen with my oldest, he would absolutely not drink out of a "normal" bottle, he couldn't do it. It was a playtex nipple it looked a lot like a breast I suppose. They also discontinued it, I found some at a discount outlet one day and bought tons of them.

What Kind of Nipple is it?

That same thing happened with my 2nd baby. She only wanted one specific kind of nipple. It took her awhile to adjust to something different. She wasn't too happy about it. But, it made it easy to introduce the cup to her. I just used one of her least favorite nipples on her bottle, and she preferred to drink out of the cup instead. She really thought that was neat.

Went through the same thing here with two of my four. What kind is it? Maybe we can find it on the net. and/or keep an eye out at the discount stores in our area's.

My son wouldn't take anything but the premie nipple we got when he was in the NICU in Denver. We spent so much money on different types of bottles & nipples! We finally ended up going to the local hospital to see if we could get a duplicate nipple there. Thank goodness they gave a bag full of nipples!

My DD would only take one kind of nipple and that was MINE! She NEVER took a bottle, no matter what we tried. She wanted only the real thing. She was exclusively breastfed but not by MY choice. LOL! BABIES! :)

So this is quite common then. LOL, interesting. Do you think this has anything to do with personality, I sure hope not! On the inside of the nipple it reads Gerber and has a number 1 and 2 on it? I can't explain the shape of it. Kind of bulbus is the only way I can explain it.

Trina, I wish my ds was like your dd, mabey I would be breastfeeding instead of bottle feeding. I would have saved a pile of money too! Formula is very expensive!

Man, my ds will take anything, lol! As long as there is food at the other end he doesn't care how it gets in his mouth! My ds is 18 months and he is an eater, at first i thought he would be chubby but the dr said as long as its healthy stuff he would be okay, which is good, my ds rarely eats junk, he is a meat boy, his favorite is steak! But he could care less what untensil, straw, nipple, its all good!

My kids were breastfed and bottlefed (breastmilk at first, but eventually forumla.). Neither one cared which nipple was on the bottle. We used both Nuk nipples and the plain ones that came on Gerber bottles. They both would just drink their milk and be done with it! Babies can be so funny sometimes!
