Questions about bra's

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2004: Questions about bra's
By Momoffour on Tuesday, April 13, 2004 - 12:30 pm:

I have a 9 year old that I have to go buy a bra for. I noticed this weekend that she is already starting to show and I don't know what kind to get her. My sister mentioned a sports bra because she is active I truely don't know. I remember my first my mom brought it home and told me I needed to start wearing it. When there this young do you look for support or what????? so any input would help out alot

I took our oldest dd with me and said lets go bra hunting. She chose her own, we made sure it was the right size and fit. I also thought of a sportsbra, we also bought one of those, but she said it was too tight and uncomfortable.

Being that young, no support was needed for dd, we were looking for more cover up type bra, so she wouldn't show. It is a bra, stretchy lace, no underwire! I just let her chose her own now.

Good Luck and it was actually fun going shopping.

My mom never took us shopping either, she just picked out one.

Older dd14 likes the traditional bras. DD12 prefers a sports bra style. Go figure.

My DD is only 3, but I still remember my first bra! I say go with something pretty. My favorite was a pink satin one that was lightly lined with thin, thin straps. Not really for support, but pretty.:)

I took my 9 year old not too long ago. She picked out camisoles which are working out fine for now. They are half ones (almost look like sport bras) with stretchy lace band across the bottom. They are cute and comfortable so she wears them. I doubt I could get her in a more traditional bra right now. She is too concerned about wearing a real bra when no one else she knows needs one.

I have a friend whose daughter wears the cami like Yvonne's dd. She really likes them.

My dd is wearing bra's. She has three or four regular bras and then one sports bra. We fight and argue a lot over them. She can't seem to remember to put it on in the mornings. I started kind of early with her on making her wear them because I wanted her to be use to wearing them before she "had" to start wearing them.

My younger daughter didn't want to wear one at first, now, she won't go to school without one. At this point, she really does need one, although, more for modesty, than support.

My 14 yr old still won't wear anything but a sports bra... if she has to wear a traditional one because of a dress style, she whines the whole time. Because of your dd's age, I would say go for a very simple style with no adjustable straps or hooks. Something soft, cotton.
