I have been changing diapers every day for the past 8 years and 4 months. Today Peyton used the potty!!!!!!! I am doing a happy dance!!!! Please keep your fingers crossed that this continues! :)

By Debbie on Friday, April 2, 2004 - 09:16 pm:

Yea Peyton!!! I trained my youngest this week. Today he went all day with no accidents. He will be 4 this summer, so it was about time.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed.

Good for you! I probably have another year with my youngest....hmmm..think of the money I'll save. My 2.5 year old DS stopped wearing diapers this week too! Yeah for all of us!

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, April 3, 2004 - 12:44 am:

Congratulations!! 6 years of changing diapers was enough for me, thank you! LOL!

By Amy~moderator on Saturday, April 3, 2004 - 01:28 am:

ROFL, I have never really thought of it that way. How many YEARS one spends changing diapers every day, LOL I've been changing diapers every day since March 1999! 5 years!

Melanie, I bet you are thrilled! Way to go Peyton! My youngest ds, Seth, is only 6 months. Ahhhh! That means I have at least a year and a half before I can even *think* about not having to look at a nasty diaper every day. :(

By Marg on Saturday, April 3, 2004 - 06:51 am:

LOL Melanie, I never thought of that either!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Yeah Peyton!

By Melanie on Saturday, April 3, 2004 - 06:30 pm:

Thanks everyone!! I'd say she is trained. She has been using the potty all day (including a couple times at the little league field) without any problems. I just LOVE when they decide it's time. It's so easy that way!!!

Congratulations to the other kids who have trained recently as well!! How exciting!!

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, April 3, 2004 - 08:15 pm:

That was how it was with both of mine. Just like a light turns on in their head. Mine weren't that hard to train once they wanted to and understood what was expected.

(I changed diapers from 8/4/89 until 9/95. I just know we got Princess and the Potty from the library August 13, 1995 and by the time we took it back a month later, Emily was trained and had been going potty consistently for a few weeks.)

At least 3 more years worth of yucky diapers here as well. I know the feeling when your child has reached that milestone...I'm happy for you and way to go Peyton!

By Eve on Sunday, April 4, 2004 - 09:53 am:

That's great! Can you have Peyton call Sydney?? LOL! She's been saying "Yeah, I don't think I can right now." :)

Oh, that is until last night in the rain! We were leaving the restaurant (much too late, it was a long day) and then she starts screaming at the car "I want to pee now! I want to pee now! Inside!" She didn't when we were in the restaurant. So, at this point she was stalling and we just put her in her car seat. Wanna trade? ;)

By Melanie on Sunday, April 4, 2004 - 12:52 pm:

LOL Eve. Syd will get it down any day. You know that! For Peyton, she just decided to wear panties the other day. She had one accident as we were heading out the door. But a couple hours later she yelled, "The pee is coming!" LOL. So I quickly put her on the potty and she did it. She got this big smile on her face and said, "Now I know I can do it!" (Followed by, "Can I have M&M's" since I had told her I had some for when she went potty. LOL). She even woke up dry this morning (in a pull-up).

It's like Dawn said. The light went on in her head and that was that. I know it was the same with the boys so I did expect it, but it is still amazing when it happens so quickly and easily! :)

By Coopaveryben on Sunday, April 4, 2004 - 09:09 pm:

When mine first started he sat on the potty holding himself in his hand and staring at himself and he just said, "Mommy it's not working .....needs some batteries"

By Trina~moderator on Sunday, April 4, 2004 - 09:37 pm:

It didn't happen suddenly like that for either of my kids. It was touch and go for a few months. They'd do really well for a few days and then regress. It was a slow, gradual process in our house.

Eve, I hope she had a diaper/Pull Up on! LOL! I'd say you need to get a potty seat for the car ASAP. Imagine her in panties and letting loose in her car seat! AWWWW! BTDT. :(

By Melanie on Sunday, April 4, 2004 - 10:22 pm:

LOL Chrissy. A couple weeks ago Peyton sat on the potty but said it wouldn't come out "because the door was locked." They can be so funny sometimes!

By Tink on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 02:40 am:

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? My 2yr,9m. old was day and night potty trained at 2yrs. but got a Bladder infection that took a month to clear up and now has a wet diaper every night. I know she has the physical capabilities to wait all night (i get her up to potty b4 I go to sleep) but she says she wants a diaper and seems to need it.
P.S. She told me she wanted the diaper cuz "I'll always be your baby."

By Coopaveryben on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 09:14 am:

First I would reassure her that she will always be your baby and she doesn't need diapers to be a baby, even when she is great big she will still be your baby, I'm sure you have done this but wanted to pitch this in just in case.

I noticed with both of mine that are trained that if I let them sleep in a diaper that they would use it. I assume she is going all day still. I would put plastic sheets or a plastic tablecloth under her sheets just to be sure for a night or two but I think without the diaper she will be fine and if not she will start to remember. Remind her before she goes to sleep that she isn't wearing a diaper and will need to go potty.

:):):)Good job Peyton!! You are such a big girl :):):)

I always think about how long I've been changing diapers LOL We are up to 5 years and 10 months worth of diapers!
