DD sick

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2004: DD sick
By Melana on Sunday, February 29, 2004 - 01:47 pm:

I took my dd to the ER yesterday, she's had a bad caugh and wheezing, I think she has more than a cold, but her Dr. said that's all that she has, I'm not sure what to do, they don't go off of what I say her symptoms have been, just what she's like right then. I'm just frustrated I guess, I'm sick too, and they misdiagnosed me as well, called bronchitis strep....

I hate it when you feel like the doctor doesn't listen and when you haven't slept at night and are sick yourself the problem seems a lot more frustrating. I broke down crying at the doctor one time, how embarrassing.

My DS's have had coughing and wheezing for a week or so, for them it is just this time of year. We go through this every year, one day it is cold (around 30) the next it is almost 70...the buds are coming out, the yellow bells are blooming and I noticed yesterday the buds were on the dogwoods. For us, it always turns into some infection......ear, throat you name it.

I give them Benadryl at night if they are stuffy and it helps them breath a little better, I also run the cool mist. But I don't like to give benadryl to them during the day....makes them too sleepy.

I hope you both feel better soon!

My DS was diagnosed with asthma last year. Now that we have it under control he has been healthy. Prior to his asthma diagnosis he was sick often (colds, ear infections, walking pneumonia,...) and prone to what we thought was croup. Asthma and allergies often go hand in hand. It can also be brought on by viruses and/or many different triggers.

If I were in your shoes I'd look into the possibility of asthma. More info at these sites...

Our state is having a rush of RSV right now. It comes with coughing and wheezing. In order to diagnos that they have to stick a tube up through the nose and down the back of the throat to suck some *stuff* out for testing. (gross I know) But, if I took one of my kids in for coughing and wheezing that would be one of the first things done. Maybe just because it's really bad here right now.
Maybe get a second opinion tomorrow at the regular doctors office.
It's always frustrating when the ER gives you no answers. BTDT recently myself.
Keep us updated if you find anything out.

well, it looks like she has bronchiolitis, different than bronchitis, and it just has to run it's course, Dr. says she should be over it in about a week

Well, Alexis spent two nights in the hospital, we just got home yesterday. Her pulseox was only at 86% and they sent us home with albuterol and an oral steriod, on top of that she's teething. But she's getting better, I hope.

Bronchiolitis hits little ones hard. I hope she's better soon!

I hope she's better soon. I hope you are able to get some rest with her on albuterol, I've been there and that is not fun.

My youngest got that and ended up in the hospital too. Good luck to you.. I hope she is feeling better.
