Thank God this had a happy ending but it never would have happened if the mother didn't leave this child unattended in the vehicle in the first place! Grrr!

I have to say that the mother's comment at the end of the article sort of proves that she still doesn't get it.

Don't leave your kids in the car with the keys in it is not the message. Don't leave your kids in the car period should have been the message.

DUH!

Thank goodness they dropped him off! Not all stories like that have such a good ending.

Yes Amanda, I noticed that too! Geez...

It's actually illegal in several states to leave kids unsupervised in a vehicle for any length of time. You can look up state laws here

We just had a story like that happen here in Utah. A mom started her car to warm it up, then took her DD (6 weeks) and herself to the car to go to a birthday party. Once she got her DD all buckled in, she realized she left the birthday gift in the house. She ran back in to get it and when she came out, the car and baby were gone.
It was awful.
Fortunately, the car was left in a parking lot and a phone call was made to the police of an abandoned car w/a baby in it. It all ended happily within several hours.
You just never ever know. Better be safe than sorry.

wow I perfectly understand what the mothers were thinking. It makes me think twice now about leaving them in my own drive way while I just runinside real quick. I have done that. Of course we have a whole parking lot that we park in in front of our house, but man. It is a pain but dragging both kids in is worth the hassle to keep them (most days =)
