Bedtime question

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2004: Bedtime question
By Fraggle on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 07:52 am:

My DH was away on a business trip about 2 weeks ago and my two DDs decided to sleep together in my oldest DD's bed (They are 2 and 4) Well it is now 2 weeks later and they still want to sleep together even though daddy is home now. They have plenty of room since my DD's bed is a full size. Is this weird? Are they growing too dependent on each other? My youngest DD had been waking up every night around 1 or 2 and since she has been in her sister's bed she has been able to sleep through the night so I really am enjoying having a full nights sleep!

I think that is sweet and wonderful! No matter what they'll be a little dependant on each other. I talk to my sister on the phone almost everyday! She's my best friend in the whole world! :)

Besides, your DD's will have moments when they can't stand each other and are pulling the others hair. I would just enjoy the moment. My sister and I call it "Sister Power!"

I agree with Eve. Let them be. Great sibling bonding. Enjoy it while you can. :)

Not weird. Normal. Sweet!

Great pix, Eve!

Very normal! I agree with Eve. My sister and I slept in the same room, each with a bed of her own, yet we managed to get into bed with the other - sometimes just to torment! It is a good memory! The pic is great, Eve!

Eve, are you twins?? If not, what's the age difference and who is older? GREAT pic!!

By Eve on Friday, January 16, 2004 - 11:35 am:

It's the only photo I had on my computer. If my scanner was hooked up I would have put up one from when we were little. We are not twins. In fact, I am 5 years older. (I'm 30, she's 25, and my brother is 21) Do you know how many times people asked if she was the older one? LOL! We are complete opposites, but very much the same. If that makes any sense?

Meredith, I love those sister moments. I'm glad you posted. It makes me want to call my sister. :)

Since we moved, my two boys ages 5-1/2 and 3-1/2, have been sleeping together. They have always preferred to sleep in their own rooms, but the last few weeks they have been sleeping together. As long as they go to sleep and don't mess around, I don't care. I think it is a pretty normal thing. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks everyone. I feel better now. They have actually been getting along really well lately-which makes me so happy. Of course they have their moments still. I have two younger sisters-and they have always been close since they shared a room together since my youngest sister was about 3. I was so jelous of them and even wanted to give up my room. (of course once I turned 13 I would not have given up my own room for a million dollars :)) I can remember sneaking into their room at night and sleeping on the end of one of their beds or on the floor. My mother always caught me and sent me back to my room which is why I probably posted this question.

Eve-in that picture you do look a lot alike. So sweet. I will have to try and post pictures sometime-We have most on CD and we have a scanner but I have no clue how to use it!

My sister and I shared a room with bunk beds until I was 8 and she was 6. Then, we got our own rooms, but she slept in my double bed with me every night for 3 years! When we moved to a new house, I weaned her down to twice a week, and then convinced her to enjoy her own room.

I think it was a great thing for us. When she was little, she was afraid of robbers, fire, kidnappers, etc. but easily fell asleep when I was there to ease her fears. It was good for me too. When she hit her teen years, it was obvious that we were very different people. Sometimes I felt like I was not "cool" enough anymore for my little sister's tastes, but I always looked back fondly on the days when I meant everything to her and I was her protector and comforter.
