The "Tween" Years

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2004: The "Tween" Years

I posted this on the book review also.

I highly recommend this book for anyone with kids ages 10-13. My 12 year old dd is driving me crazy. I couldn't figure her out.

I read this book, easily in one afternoon. It has opened up why my dd is acting the way she is, how to better parent her and it also let me know her behaviors are typical for someone her age.

"It's like a guide to understanding children from the often-volatile years of ten to thirteen, it provides parents with a wealth of commonsense parent-child conflicts to the essentials of communication and encouragemnet. It also looks closely at the issues that can crop up at this time, including self-esteem, socialization, privacy, depression and eating disorders."

Since reading it two days ago, I appreciate the time we are going through right now instead of trying to constantly parent her. I'm worrying less that she is not going to turn out okay.

Just thought I would share! :)

I should go look for that book. I have an 11yo, who will be 12 in March.
