DD keeps burping (not on purpose)....

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2003: DD keeps burping (not on purpose)....
By Dana on Saturday, February 15, 2003 - 09:12 am:

DD (age 4) started to have burps just popping out of her on a regular basis. She's never done this before and the way they just "slip out" I know she is not doing it on purpose.

Obviously she is swallowing air, but any ideas on why and why this was never a problem before? Just seems odd to me.

Thanks

Have you made any recent changes to her diet? That could be a reason. Also, I know you were trying to encourage her to drink fluids recently. Is she maybe gulping when she drinks and swallowing lots of air?

By Claire on Saturday, February 15, 2003 - 11:51 am:

Dana I think this may be related to her sinus/tonsil issues.

Children with allergies and sinus problems tend to be mouth breathers and swallow air which in turn leads to burps :)

If she is having a hard time breathing through her nose at the moment I bet this is the cause.

Yes, her nose is stuffed. Wonder if that is it.

That's true, Claire, I didn't even think of that!

Karen, I've also been increasing her fluid intake, so between swollen tonsils, stuffed nose and more water, I gues she is just swallowing more air.

Just so odd since she is burping so often and never did before.
