School started today

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Children with Special Needs: School started today
By Cat on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 - 10:12 am:

I dropped Robin off about 1/2 hour ago. I may need pharmaceutical help getting through the day. I haven't felt this stressed in a long time. I told him he could lose it when he got home, but to try not to lose it at school. I'll be doing lots of deep breathing today...

{{{Cat}}} I'll be thinking about you and Robin today. Is there any particular triggers that you think will set him off today or will it just be the newness and general structure? Let us know how it went when he gets home today.

Well, so far so good. I asked him how his day was and he said "Good." I'll take that. I gotta say, though, there are some interesting looking kids at that school! I saw a 1/2 a mohawk (the top was missing, but there was no hair on the sides, just a LONG pony tail in the back!), a couple of goth kids (or is it Emo now???) and a few kids smoking at a car when I pulled in. District policy says no smoking on school grounds, so that will probably be something discussed. We'll see. I guess with an "alternative" school you get all kinds. Robin said there was already a fight during lunch today. I told him as long as he wasn't involved it didn't really matter to me. He didn't want to talk much, though and that's okay. We'll see how the rest of the week goes and then there's an open house on Saturday so I'll get to meet the teachers and such. They've still got lots to do (set up a computer for lunch accounts, the lunch room isn't ready so they ate in the gym today, etc). Normal stuff for a first year school. One day down...

It is interesting when you have a different kid in a different school, I never thought of the other different kids..LOL.

Glad he didn't come home hating everything. Maybe this is the year it all goes better.

I keep saying that to myself. I made an appointment with my youngest with an autism/adhd specialist. I am hoping we can successfully find something that helps. I hate those stressed days! (((hugs))
