Had our meeting.. Went well... I think...

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Children with Special Needs: Had our meeting.. Went well... I think...
By Feona on Thursday, March 17, 2005 - 12:51 pm:

So we had the meeting. They didn't pull to many of his services.

They took away his social worker for the summer only.... Speech is 2 times 45 instead of 3 times 45... okay. John is going to camp for 5 days a week for 4 hours a day.... Nice camp... this time... (they didn't want him last year)

The school district wanted to put john is 1/2 day special ed class and 1/2 day regular ed class. We were okay with that since there wasn't much of a choice.

So the administrator called me and said ds is going in full day regular ed class with special ed teacher in the afternoon in the regular ed class. I think John can do it... So we will see.

Said the special ed class they had was not high enough functioning for john. He is really smart.. His only delay is social and attention...

he can write all his letters and read alittle bit. Social of course he is behind 1 1/2 years, (lucky he is a feb baby so he is old... )

So we will cross our fingers and keep working for john.. I am afraid to tell his seit and speech teacher in case they disagree with it....

But to tell you the truth this is what I wanted for ds but I think he can do it. alittle bit of a stretch for him.... Well it is six months away and he is doing really good right now. We seem to have things under control with him....

Glad it went well! I had an IEP meeting for my youngest, Randy, last month. He has a slight speech problem and barely qualifies for services as it is, and I'm always afraid they're going to pull him out of the program. He only gets 30 minutes a week anyway. Last month at his meeting the slp said she likes to see them at 80% all the time before she pulls services and he's at about 80%, but not all the time. So he's got another year. :) I hope they challenge your ds. It's always bad news when a smart kids gets bored. They tend to be creative and think of things to do. :)
