IEP yearly review yesterday

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Children with Special Needs: IEP yearly review yesterday
By Cat on Friday, September 17, 2004 - 07:14 pm:

It was the first IEP meeting for Robin that I actually felt GOOD when it was over! He's doing great in school and his teacher (in the SIED classroom) would like to see him mainstreamed 90% of the time by the end of the year. He's mainstreamed about 60% of the time right now. His regular classroom teacher said he was a bit disruptive one day last week when he broke out into song during science. HUH??? MY son??? I told his SIED teacher I realize that probably was a bit disruptive, but I see it as a major breakthrough. Robin's finally expressing emotions other than anger! I was talking to a daycare mom this morning who happens to teach across the hall from his classroom teacher (and will actually have Robin for social studies starting next week) and mentioned it and she said the other teacher had told her about it. I told her dh and I were wondering what song he was singing (thinking it was something totally inappropriate knowing Robin!) and she said, "Oh, it was 'It's a Small World.'" rofl I didn't even know he knew that song! Dh thought that was hilarious! Anyway, Robin's doing great so far this year. I hope and pray it continues. Just thought I'd share. :)

That's great! WTG, Robin! What a song to choose. It makes such a difference in our outlook when our dks are doing so well.
