Ds is changing schools. Yippee! No more witch teacher!

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Children with Special Needs: Ds is changing schools. Yippee! No more witch teacher!
By Feona on Saturday, February 7, 2004 - 06:06 am:

The school district told me to switch schools. Seems the director and the teacher (best friends)
complained about getting inappropriate services.(too many services!)

I asked them point blank if they wanted him in the school and they didn't say a thing. Just went behind the assistant director of special eds back to complain to his boss.

The assistant director called another local school for me and asked for a special favor that they find room for my son at their school.

Seems that the school my son is attending will no longer be receiving referrals from the school district any more.

I know everyone thinks this is just my son, but the whole classes parents have had a hellish year with the teacher who thinks all the kids need to evaluated and never has a positive thing to say about anyone.

The Seit teacher say she thinks john will have no problems in the new school as everything is clicking for him now. She can stop having anxiety attacks about going to the horrible witches class.

John is only going to get 3 hours of seit a day, which is more than enough. He might attend the new school 4 or 5 hours a day , 5 days a week. We will see how it goes.

John is now finding some books silly, which is a big positive. I also learned he is sitting thought the story time fine and answering all the questions pretty much right all the time.

He still has problems with the circle time where they just talk (with no pictures to look at) I think that is pretty much the only thing he is having problems with now. So he should have no any problems in the new school, God willing.

The assistant director told me that he has never seen a brighter just turned 4 year old in speical education. As you know ds is starting to read and knows how to write half the alphabet. He also is playing cooperatively with kids in the right setting.

Feona, I hope everything works out well for your ds in his new school setting. Will you have a special meeting with the staff at the new school before he starts there, and do you have any idea yet when he will be able to start?

By Feona on Monday, February 9, 2004 - 07:33 am:

Ds starts on Tuesday. The new school is very happy to do the personal favor for the assistant director! (can you imagine!)

The seeit teacher said she worked in the new school and she says it is great!

Happy Happy Happy.

I am actually nervous. I am bring ds for his last day of school today. His services are so valuable that I don't like him to miss them even for a day.

I am not saying a bad word to anyone, because it would be wasted on them. Waste of air. They are not capable of understanding what I would say.

Just meet with the teacher and director. I blasted the teacher in front of the director. Could not have helped my self.

Told them they should have a meeting with the other parents because they are being tortured by the teacher's negativity. (True)

The teacher started crying. I must be a mean son of you know what. That teacher gave me heart palpatations and night mares the whole year, good she have one day of pain from what she did to me this year.

Unfortunately, I told them the seit teacher was having anxiety attacks from being in the classroom which I should not have said, even if it is true.

They shouldn't have called me in the meeting if they didn't want me to tell them what was going on.

I had nightmares all weekend from them going behind the assistant directors back to get my son's services decreased. Hopefully the nightmares will stop now.

They now realized they probably should not have done what they did but it is too late.

Feona, one of my kids had a teacher like that for a couple of years. She would send her home if she was crying. The kid was in a special ed class, yet they tried to send her home constantly. They quickly found out they were dealing with the wrong mom to pull that crap on!
Chrissy is still in that class. The teacher isn't. I think enough people complained to the principal, and they moved her to regular ed. I still feel sorry for anyone with their kid in her class, because she seems to feel at least half of the kids have behaviour probs. In reality, she has a teaching prob! People like that should not be teaching anyone!
I hope the new school works out well. It sure sounds like it will.

Ds sat in the new school for circle time! They used little pictures and he could focus on the picture.

He is going to love this new school. They do numbers and letters and sounds of letters and counting. He was so focused I almost died.

Glad to hear. As much as I didn't want my son in a special needs school, I loved it. Now he is in reg ed and I sure miss the way they handled things!

Feona, how's you son doing? Just thinking about ya. :)

By Feona on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 07:04 am:

Thanks for asking.

The speech teacher called yesterday to say he is doing very well in the new school.

The seit teacher thinks so too.

The school is very structured and the kids are always learning.

Ds does have trouble sitting with the circle time in the afternoon because he is tired. But he does well in the morning circle time and story time. He is even answering questions in the group.

The head teacher seems very sane. I have not had any stress from the school since we switched. I was getting weekly stress from the old school.

I just wish I had switched him sooner. But maybe it is better we waited because he is better behaved every day.

This is a review of lynbrook temple emanual.

That's great, Feona! Sounds like it was a good switch for him (and you!). :)
