As a studio based company, there is a strong focus on learning to apply makeup along with selling the cosmetics. Our website provides ample makeup artist style advice along with specifying the precise products to create the looks presented.
Dean and Davis Factor, two very different entrepreneurial brothers and the great-grandsons of makeup legend Max Factor, combine their knowledge and skills to form SmashBox Photo Studios Los Angeles. Davis brings his talents as one the leading celebrity and fashion photographers; Dean provides the business acumen and marketing skills to create a full-service photography facility. people such as Annie Liebovitz, Mary Ellen Mark, Matthew Ralston and Herb Ritts fill the factor's studio each day with celebrities from all genres of the industry, and covers of every imaginable magazine are shot at SmashBox Photo Studios.
Davis Factor and Dean Factor, great-grandsons of Hollywood cosmetics legend Max Factor, founded Smashbox Studios in 1991. The enterprise expanded to include a photo studio, modeling agency, production company, clothing line, and, in 1999, a cosmetics line called Smashbox Cosmetics.
In 2002, IMG Modeling Agency and Smashbox Studios began hosting Los Angeles Fashion Week at their Culver City location. 2007 marked its 6th consecutive year.
In 2007 Smashbox Studios merged with Quixote Studios, an LA based film and photo studio founded by Mikel Elliot and Jordan Kitaen. Smashbox Studios and Quixote Studios together are comprised of 15 studios between three locations in West Hollywood, Culver City and Griffith Park. They also have a production supplies and expendable store located in Hollywood and a vehicle lot in West Los Angeles housing a fleet of production trailers, trucks and motorhomes. Each location has grip and lighting departments; espresso bars; and private, celebrity green rooms.
The Factor brothers are confident you won't smash your makeup box if it contains their lineup of cosmetics. In addition to its makeup for the lips, eyes, and face, Smashbox Cosmetics offers nail polish, makeup brushes, pencils and sharpeners, stylist bags, makeup removers, cleansers, and moisturizers. Its cosmetics are sold in hundreds of stores, primarily in the US but also in Canada. Smashbox came into existence in 1997 when brothers David and Dean Factor (great-grandsons of legendary makeup artist Max Factor, who is credited with creating the concept of mass-marketed cosmetics) became fed up with the quality of cosmetics made for photographic use and decided to go into business for themselves.
