Snow! I took this picture at 6:45am, so the sun wouldn't have been up yet. I realize I wouldn't have seen the sun, but when we took Emily to school an hour later, it was a lot brighter then. Jasmine looked shocked, when she went outside and looked around the yard and street a little before she went off to go potty.
First snow of the season 11-24-08

By Dana on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 10:12 am:

That is so pretty. My daughter is sooooooo ssooooooo jealous. She telling me "I'm TEN and I've never even seen snow!"

By Mrs_B on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 02:30 pm:

Beautiful! I, too, am jealous! ;)

By Dawnk777 on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 02:45 pm:

It doesn't look like that anymore. It's above 32, and we shoveled the walks and the driveway, plus the city spread salt around, so all the pavement is showing now. I knew I needed to take a picture right away this morning!

The kids who didn't wear boots AND snowpants to school today, had to just stay on the blacktop and watch the other kids play. This snow was on the ground, as of 6:45am and it's not a mystery that snow and cold happen in WI, starting about now. So, why kids aren't prepared, I'll never know.

By Kate on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 03:50 pm:

Oh Dana I envy your daughter!!! Ugh ugh ugh!!!!

By Bellajoe on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 04:50 pm:

I've lived in the Cleveland area all my life. I can't imagine never having seen snow before. I understand the jealousy. It is pretty and fun to sled ride in.

Tell your dd that I envy her for living in Florida where it is so beautiful and warm most of the time!

By Karen~admin on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 05:40 pm:

Well, at least it looked pretty for a while!

By Dana on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 06:55 pm:

I'll tell me daughter about the icky stuff left over after it melted, and not playing without out the snow gear on. But I don't think that will make a difference to her. :)

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 - 12:44 am:

I, for one, am NOT jealous!! It's beautiful, and I'm glad we're friends so I can see pictures of it's beauty, and still be warm, LOL!! I will say, I'm glad we lived in KS for a couple of years, so the kids got to see snow. I grew up in Jersey, so I was well over the excitement, but they got to see snow, and will remember it, and now we can commence with the warm climate year-round. :)

Dawn that looks like here now, it is snowing as I type. We have had a bunch of snow falls already, since the beginning of November. Great stuff, not... I am dreading the actual snow that is yet to come. I have had to drive in four wheel drive twice already. Going out this early in the snow fall season is kind of scary, it is like people have to relearn to drive in it every year. Hopefully, it will be a decent winter..

On the preparing the children to be outside note, I can so hear where you are coming from, we haven't been outside at school since October to many kids ill prepared for the weather.

Bobbie, there's just no excuse. We have plenty of thrift stores, if you can't afford new, plus there's a clothing exchange, every November, too, where you can stuff, for the cost of an item for the food pantry.

My dog seems very fluffy this year. I wonder if that's a bad omen! Sarah is home now for the holiday and commented on Jasmine's luxurious coat.

By Wandilu on Saturday, November 29, 2008 - 11:19 pm:

Dawn, I always enjoy seeing your snow pictures each winter. You all seem to get a lot of snow. I wish we had more snow in my area. I could surely use a white Christmas this year !!

By Marcia on Sunday, November 30, 2008 - 12:17 pm:

Bobbie, we have something in town called "Coats for Kids". People donate their old winter wear, in good condition, and people who are in need can go in and get the items free of charge. Although it's "for kids", it's really for everyone. Every town should have something like this!

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, November 30, 2008 - 03:56 pm:

We are supposed to get 6-10 inches of snow, by sometime tomorrow. It's snowing lightly now. I'm sure I'll have more pictures to show, tomorrow. Although, I work so many darn hours this week. I might not have time to take pictures.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Monday, December 1, 2008 - 09:53 am:

Marcia, we have "Coats for kids" too. The local give away isn't until the 16th of this month, it has been cold since October, so those relying on the give away are still waiting for coats. The welfare department has a tree of mittens and hats, if you need them you take them, they have boxes of extras that they reload the tree with until they are out. The elementary schools also have a supply of hats and gloves, donated to them on a yearly basis through the estate of a local woman, to hand out as needed.

I don't know if it is a lack of proper clothing or parents that really don't enforce proper weather attire rules in their homes. I honestly question if many of the parents care what the children wear to school period, but that is a whole other thread.

Anyway, With our current economy, the assistance programs are making themselves well know, we have two billboards in town for coats for kids, a commercial on the radio, and there is a TV commercial airing. I have a list of programs at work, that was compiled by the the city council and I would say I refer someone to a program at least twice a week. It is crazy.. Thankfully a lot of people are stepping up to try to help, unlike in the past, but it is sad that it has taken things getting as bad as they are for people to take notice. We have had three more places announce closings of their businesses by the first of the year, there is talk Whirlpool will not bringing back the nearly 700 people laid off over Thanksgiving.

The snow just started coming down here.

I'm with Crystal!! I'm 32 and can count on one hand the number of times I've seen snow live in person. And I'm TOTALLY okay with that and actually prefer it! lol... BUT I do enjoy looking at my friends' pictures of them having to deal with it. We were 75 yesterday then a couple hours later it was 50. CRAZY!

Very pretty Dawn!

By Marcia on Monday, December 1, 2008 - 10:35 am:

It's too bad that they are only open at that time. I think ours opens in early fall. It can and often does snow here in Oct.

By Momofmax on Monday, December 1, 2008 - 01:36 pm:

Ohhhh! That is so beautiful!

By Dawnk777 on Monday, December 1, 2008 - 03:38 pm:

It was pretty this morning, but no time to take a picture. We were busy shoveling. We need to replace the snowblower, but need to find out if DH has a job or not, first.
