Flying--have a few questions

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2007: Flying--have a few questions
By Yjja123 on Friday, May 18, 2007 - 03:17 pm:

We will be flying in a couple weeks. My hubby won the argument (I HATE flying) :)
Since it has been years, I know I am out of the loop. I know we cannot bring food/liquids onboard but what are the rules for packed luggage? I want to bring a few tins of my homemade cookies. Can I pack those in our checked luggage?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I haven't read the entire page, but this might help.

TSA - Permitted and Prohibited Items

Depends on where you are flying? Are you going through customs? We are traveling home on Monday with sealed coffee's and candies, etc... but no homemade foods or fresh fruits can cross the borders. If you are traveling in the states I am sure it's no problem!!!

You can bring food onboard and even liquids that you buy in shops or from vending machines past the security checkpoints. I have flown more in the past 3 months than I probably had in my whole life, so I am well-versed in the latest regulations--LOL. Make sure trial sizes only of toiletries and they must fit in a qt sized ziploc bag that you will have to take off and show at security. You'll also have to remove shoes, so think about slip-ons to make things move more quickly. You can bring just about anything (except of course, guns, illegal drugs, explosives, etc.) in your packed luggage.

I think what I said is wrong... :) I know my dh had to throw away fruit that he was trying to travel with. lol (from guatemala to CR) But if I packed homemade goodies in my checked luggage, I *think* we could get it through customs. err, so disregard what I said. :)

Just go to your airlines website. Most toiletries have to be less than 3 ounces and in a marked container. My DH travels for work and is flying a few times a week. Everything is listed on their websites for their individual rules and hopefully that will tell you everything you need to know. Good luck!

It is not specific (on the web site). I sent them an email and will wait for a response.
Thank you for all the info!
