I'm a comic book artist ;)

Some of you know that I want to draw comic books. Some might have seen the blog where I've been posting drawings (www.combicbookwoman.blogspot.com - yes, comic is misspelled in the address. :)).

Someone asked me to draw a graphic novel he's writing!

It's going to be a historical novel about a woman who hiked up her skirts at the turn of the 20th century and crossed Labrador. Her name was Mina Benson Hubbard and it's a fantastic story. The guy that asked me is a history professor and he's been following my blog for awhile. He's also a complete comic book geek. :)

It's completely ridiculous. I started a blog last summer to become a comic book penciller and now I've just been offered my first grab at the ring. I decided I was going to be something and it's happening. It's just crazy. Crazy!

And wonderful!

Very cool! Please let us know the title and when the book will be published. Sounds interesting, and I love historical fiction.

My DS (10) has a knack for drawing and is taking classes at Guy Gilchrist's Cartoonist's Academy. I'll have to share this with him.

Thanks all! I forgot to warn everyone that there are a fair amount of naked ladies. Nothing really racy but lots of boobage.

I had a scary moment once when I was sketching a nude women from the computer and my daughter's friend marched into the kitchen. It was a fast scramble for the mouse! My kids are sort of used to seeing reference nudes on the monitor but I really didn't want the boy going home and telling his parents he saw Catherine's mom looking at naked people on the computer. :)

Here's a site describing Mina's accomplishments, Mina Benson Hubbard, and here's a bit from the site;
"From the time she plunged into the unknown Labrador wild, crossing huge lakes of wind-whipped white caps, running kilometre after kilometre of dancing, foam-flecked rapids down the George River until it lost its wilderness spirit in Ungava Bay, Mrs. Hubbard was not idle. She brought back the first maps of the Naskaupi and George River valleys, which were accepted by the American Geographical Society and the Geographical Society of Great Britain. She made notes on the flora and fauna of Labrador. She described in detail the great Labrador caribou migration and photographed the Naskaupi and Montagnais Indians who hunted the animals for their food and clothes."

She's one the writer's heroes and she sounds like a fantastic personality. The book will focus mostly on her trip into the wilderness.

Tripletmom - I've got boxes of comics in my basement. :)

My link code isn't working at all. Am I getting something wrong?
