MISERABLE!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2007: MISERABLE!!
By Crystal915 on Monday, February 12, 2007 - 03:22 pm:

That sums up how I'm feeling right now. I had been having back pain for over a week, and just chalked it up to stress. Early Sunday morning, I had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance, because the pain was so severe I couldn't breathe. They DXed me with a kidney infection, so I'm on antibiotics and pain meds. I am so out of it, and my kids are taking advantage by destroying my house. Just looking at the mess makes me want to cry!!!! Not to mention, all I want to do is sleep, and I have to fight to stay awake now. I'm hoping to be well enough to go back to work tomorrow, I am going to be so behind if I don't!! Thankfully, I'm salaried, so it's not taking a bite out of my check. Thanks for letting me vent!

((((HUGS)))) I had the flu last week and my kids took advantage of it and destroyed my house... I hope you start feeling better soon.

By Amecmom on Monday, February 12, 2007 - 04:37 pm:

Hugs Crystal. At least you know what was causing the back pain and are on the road to getting well.
Don't think about the house or the kids. As long as they're not doing something dangerous, let them be. You'll have plenty of time to deal with them and the house when you are feeling better. Also, don't push yourself to go back to work too soon. Give your body a chance to get better.

Hope you're better soon!

(((((hugs)))))) Hope you are up and around soon! I agree about not pushing yourself too hard to go back to work. You may be better off taking one more day off to make sure you are getting better. Otherwise you might end up having to take off many days to get over something even more serious.

BTW, I know from experience that the mess the kids are making will still be there waiting for you when you get better. No rush to clean it up...it isn't going anywhere ;)

I hope you're feeling better soon. I understand that the mess might be making you crazy but trying to take care of it could send you back to the ER. Just do the basics and let your body rest and heal.

{{{HUGS}}} Pyelo (pyelonephritis, or a kidney infection) is no fun. Hope you are feeling better soon! The people I've seen that have it, look so uncomfortable!

By Sandysmom on Monday, February 12, 2007 - 08:08 pm:

(((((hugs))))) Wish I could be there to help. Try to rest as much as possible and if you need to take off tomorrow, then do so. A kidney infection is nothing to mess with.

Oh my honey, I feel for you! I had one of those once and I thought I had pulled out my back too. I went to stat care for it and they wanted to test my urine. I couldn't figure out why in the world they wanted to do that for a pulled back muscle. LOL Turned out, the meds they gave me weren't strong enough, and I got worse instead of better. Called my regular doctor 2 days after I was at stat care telling him something was really wrong with me, I was in tears. The glands in my neck (by my ears) swelled and everything. I don't remember what antibiotic he called in, but he said if I wasn't remarkably better in 24 hours to just come into the office. Not to even call first. Whatever it was he called in knocked that thing out FAST. So if your not feeling better within a couple of days, make sure to follow up. I KNOW how miserable you are! Take it easy!!

Thanks everyone!! I'm feeling better tonight than last night. I couldn't believe how much it felt like labor. I never thought I'd experience anything that close to labor, but it definitely did!

I had a kidney infection many, many years ago that started as severe back pain. My husband took me to our family doctor, who did a urine test and immediately prescribed antibiotics. This was back in 1959 or 1960, so one didn't think about going to the emergency room unless you were dying. We were staying with my parents at that time because we'd just moved back from Racine, WI, as my husband lost his job and gotten a new one back in Chicago, and we hadn't found an apartment yet. Thank heaven. By the time he got me home (by cab), it was all he and my mom could do to get me undressed and into bed, where I slept for 36 hours, with them waking me up often enough to take the antibiotics and drink water.

Gee, Crystal, is there no way dh could stay home, or some kind of help could have been found - neighbors, friends, whoever - or day care so you could at least have slept during the day? Glad you are feeling better, but don't overdo, because you have been really sick and you need to give yourself time to heal. By that, I mean don't rush back to work. I'm sure your firm has "sick time", and you need to take advantage of it. Talk to your doctor about how soon you can go back to work, and don't risk harming yourself. Goodness knows you won't have any problem producing a good medical reason.

Crys, the house will worry about itself and be there when you are feeling 100%. You take care of you and keeping those kids safe. Stressing can make things worse and cause it to take longer to heal.. Rest Crys and take care...

Ginny,
We don't have urgent care, so on weekends the ER is the only choice. If I had put 2 and 2 together (back pain, increase in pain after alcoholic drinks, slight burning when urinating, I missed all the obvious signs!) I would have high-tailed it to my doctor during the week, but I just never thought about it being anything besides back pain. I never noticed I had a fever because I had been taking Motrin for the back pain, I was just clueless! As for help, Nate moved out over the summer, my next door neighbor moved back to OK while her husband is deployed, so the only person I have nearby is my best friend, who is also my day care provider. She has been great with helping me as much as possible, but there is only so much she can do. I went back to work today, the doctors didn't restrict me from light activities, but my boss knows I'm not going to be up to par for a little while. I could have taken another day or two off, but I was going stir crazy, so being in my office was a nice change of pace. I'm off Friday and Saturday, so a short week anyway.
Believe me, I know you girls are right, the house can wait, it's driving me nuts, but I'll just have to fight the urge to clean. I tried to sweep the floors last night, and got dizzy, decided the last thing I needed was to fall down the stairs, so the dirt wins for now!!

I'm so sorry you were so ill, Crystal! I'm glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Hugs to you. Take care.
