Okay, I've narrowed my name choices....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2007: Okay, I've narrowed my name choices....
By Dana on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 01:09 pm:

There were some I liked but they already exist online as a .com or .org (one was even a X X X sight).

So I am looking at:

Mom's Turn
Mama's Turn
It's Mama's Turn
Time4Mom (this would need .org - .com exists so could cause problems for people looking up online)

I wanted Mom's Time, but taken online and that is the triple x site.

Still nothing is hitting me saying "this is it!!"

By Mrsheidi on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 01:27 pm:

:( Aw, I liked mine. LOL! ("Mostly Mom") Narcissistic, I know. Ah, well...

Out of those, I guess Mom's Turn. The word "Mama" is very southern and sounds grandma-ish, to me anyway. JMHO.

By Vicki on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 01:32 pm:

Maybe I am looking at this wrong. Is this something that is very common in your area? There is nothing like this that I know of around me. So in looking at your names, they all say to me that it is a drop off place. But if this kind of place is common in your area, maybe you won't have that problem..... Of the ones you have listed, I would vote Time4Mom though.... I am NOT a fan of "mama" either Heidi. LOL

By Kate on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 01:56 pm:

I agree with Vicki. With those types of names I don't understand the concept and it wouldn't make me look into it, either, as I'm not looking for either a place to drop my child off, nor would I be looking for a moms only place. So based on the name alone I would drive on by and not research it.

I totally loved Pam's 'Mom and Tot Spot'. Perhaps just 'The Gathering Place'?

If you like Time4Mom but are worried about 'org' vs. 'com' could you just make it 'Time For Mom'?

Good luck with this! :)

By Bellajoe on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 02:00 pm:

I"m with Heidi and Vicki. I'm not a fan of Mama either.

I agree with Vicki, those names would make me think that I could drop the kids off there and leave.

I think it should say something about kids playing and mom's relaxing, or chilling out, or something like that.

Or maybe just "All 4 Mom"

I just found a website if you are thinking of things that rhyme. It's called Rhymezone, i just googled "words that rhyme"

By Tayjar on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 03:20 pm:

How about Club Mommy?

By Kaye on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 03:36 pm:

I like Mosty Mom too Heidi.

Mama isn't a favorite word of mine, I would have to use Mom's turn, a turn for mom.

I also hate the numbers in the title, Again for me it would have to be time for mom. Using numbers indicates a math type thing for me. I don't know.

I really do like the alliteration of Mostly Mom, or a Moment for Mom.

By Sandysmom on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 04:09 pm:

I still like Mom and Tot Spot because it reminds me of sitting and have a spot of tea - like having a little break.

I also like Mellow Moms
Calm Corner
Mom's Mini Retreat

If I think of any more, I'll let you know. :)

By Sandysmom on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 04:14 pm:

Mom's Moment
Mom's Respite
Mom's Reprieve

By Sandysmom on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 04:23 pm:

Mom's Minute

By Vicki on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 04:58 pm:

I really like Mom and Tot Spot. Don't know how I missed that one! That name says it all!!

By Cybermommyx4 on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 05:48 pm:

What about "Mom n' Me" or "Moms R US" ???or is that too close to Toys R Us? I agree that the name should indicate that it's for Moms AND Kids, unless the sign indicates that with a "subtitle"....

DD suggested Madres at Play, lol!

How about Mom Zone? This does sound like a neat idea for a business, though. How much will membership cost?

By Kym on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 06:18 pm:

I agree the first names sound like a drop off plance, this is really a chit chat kinda place, I would focus on mom's being able to come here, get ideas, network, regain strenght, retreat, all while the kiddos are with them, I still like the Mom n tot stop or stop for that reason.

By Breann on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 07:24 pm:

Mom Zone sounds pretty cool :)

I'm not sure what the business is for either. Is it a drop off, or is it for moms, and there is a sitter on site? (Sort of like a gym with a daycare idea)

Out of the ones to chose from, I like Mom's Turn. Time4Mom, I would think it's a lotion/candle type store. Things for moms to use.

If "Mama" is what people say in your area, I think it would be fine, since it is your area that you are targeting.

By Dana on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 08:15 pm:

You can't get more south than FL so Momma or Mama is pretty common for what a baby calls their mom when they are learning to talk.

The Mom and Tot makes me think of tater tots and that is about all I see when I read that. Obviously it doesn't for you all, and thus a nice choice, but I can't go to work each day thinking of tater tots LOL.

Guess Im back to square one. sigh

By Kaye on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 09:24 pm:

If it helps I like Momma, better than Mama..LOL

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 09:50 pm:

Ditto Kaye...Like Momma but not Mama so much.

I'm a little unclear on what kind of place this is as well. The names you listed sound like a drop-off place for kids, but that's not really what it is? I also don't care for the number in the title.

I really like Mom Zone & Mostly Mom.

By Conni on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 02:34 pm:

Some of these names have already been given to you by other I think I may have repeated several! :)

By Dana on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 05:45 pm:

Great list!

I've been praying for the words that work. So many excellent choices have been shared.

Thank you, EVERYONE!

For those who don't understand what I am doing. It is an indoor playroom for preschoolers. Instead of focussing on the children's needs (all the little playgroups and music and art stuff) I am focussing on the mother. No, Dad really isn't my customer. He counts but this is not a place designed for him.

Do your remember (or currently) having a child at your hip for EVERYTHING you did? No matter where you went there was a child attached. It was difficult to sit down and do anything without interuption. You couldn't talk on the phone, go online, meet friends for coffee or lunch, go to a workout session, or just sit for a little while without chasing your child? Well, my place is a small answer to these problems.

For a price, your preschooler has use of our indoor playroom filled w/ the stuff you can't typically have in a house: slide, play gym, playhouse, ride on train, bouncy as well as other common toys. The kids are in an area that is gated off from all other areas. Moms can see their kids at all times. There is a nicely decorated room w/ couches and chairs for resting or chatting. They will have access to the internet. There is a "kitchen" room for eating food from home or prepackaged stuff bought on site. Kids can eat in here too. There is a place for the mothers to do their own exercising by watching a video or just stretching. I will also have classes aimed at women's needs. Remember, the kids are in the same room w/ mom but inclosed in their own play area. I will also have a small consignment shop as well.

It is a place where mom gets a break from the child so that she can do what she wants within the same walls. It is a mom's time out.

By Kate on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 05:58 pm:

Is there someone else supervising all these playing children while mom is on the internet or working out? Or are the moms to keep an eye on their own child? I'd not be the slightest bit relaxed if I was watching my own child AND trying to do all that 'me' stuff.

By Dana on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 06:26 pm:

In reality there won't be twenty kids in the play yard at one time. Ive been to places similar: playroom w/ tables for mom. And the kids really play without problems since there are cool toys there. And yes, mom is to watch her own child and yes I am watching too...and so are any other moms that are there. There were never any problems when I went to a place w/ my daughter. Nor will there be 5 things going on at one time. Each activity/class occurs during times that open play is not available.

I feel certain that a mom can sit on the couch talking w/ a friend and watch her child at the same time. Or do a class and keep an eye on their child. We do it all the time. The difference is the instructers KNOW mom is watching kids too, so they expect things to interupt time to time. The mom doesn't have to feel terrible because they had to walk away from class to tend to their child. We are a moms place that is child friendly. Everything is facing the play yard.

Have you ever experienced the freedom of taking your kids to a friends house w/ a really cool child safe room or back yard. No, you are not completely free from tending to your child, but it is so much easier than trying to meet a friend in a public place, including an outdoor park. It's kinda like that.

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 09:38 pm:

Dana that place sounds fantastic! If my kids were smaller (and i lived near you) i would totally go to your place!
It would be perfect for my area especially during the winter months. I can't tell you how many times, when my kids were toddlers, i thought to myself "i wish there was an indoor playground around here somewhere, that was not too expensive"

I was thinking about the name of your place this morning, i came up with "kids thrill, mom's chill" then "thrill and chill"...but that sounds like you serve ice cream or something LOL

By Mrsheidi on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 09:54 pm:

What's the age cutoff? It sounds like a great idea! We could use a place like that in Maryland. :)

By Tripletmom on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 10:05 pm:

In Ontario,we have an indoor playground called Busy Bodies. Its sectioned off for babies/toddlers and bigger kids. They do gym classes,b-day parties and public play. The slides are big enough for mom/dad to go down and climb with the kids. It's a great place to play inside.Good luck with your new adventure.

By Cocoabutter on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 10:06 pm:

I like Club Mommy, or something with Club in it.

Mommy's Clubhouse

Club Chill

Club Mellow

By Breann on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - 11:20 pm:

What about "Club Mom". Sort of like Club Med, but for moms :)

By Mrsheidi on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 12:19 am:

Personally, I don't like the word "club" because it insinuates that you have to join something or that it could be elitist. Trust me, once you advertise to a local mom's club or church, word gets out fast.

How about "Mums and Buds" or...
use the word "Tulips" but play it funny with spelling since the women are going to chat...

"Twolips and Mums" or...

in Europe, tots are called drunken strawberries...

"Twolips and Strawberries"

By Dana on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 08:31 am:

Well, mommys clubhouse already has a website. Remember, not only does it have to be a good name, it can't already exist online. There have been several names suggested but already have the website. Mom and Tot spot already exist, for those of you still rooting for that name.

I really liked mommys clubhouse. Such a bummer.

Hmm, maybe a can add "A" or "IT's" in front.

Okay, how do you feel about:
1)A Mommy's Clubhouse
2)The Mommy's Clubhouse
3)It's Mommy's Clubhouse

I was also looking at Mommy's Meeting Place but I need a different word than Place. Any ideas? (Clubhouse seems to fill in "meeting place" all together for me).

I'm also looking at "It's Moms Time Out" since I still like my first choice of Mom's Time Out.

OR

Mom Chills While Baby Thrills

I think I am leaning towards the mommy clubhouse theme. It really will be like a club house.

MrsHeidi, the moms actually can "join" by purchasing month passes, so club is appropriate. They can do pay as you go, but I am praying most customers will be card holders. To answer your other question, it is only avail for babies and preschoolers due to size and weight limits on toys. I will offer special times for older siblings to join baby in play after school hours and evening for working moms. The older child, however, is not allowed to play on equipment, only aide baby brother or sister in playing.

Mom's Cozy Corner

By Bellajoe on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 08:58 pm:

oooh! I like mom's cozy corner!!

That tells me that its a place for Mom, which means there is probably a place for kids. And anything cozy sounds good to me.

If i drove by a place called "mom's cozy corner" i would definitely look into it and find out what it's about.

By Sandysmom on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 09:02 pm:

ME TOOO! I envisioned it to be a nice cozy corner to go and relax and watch the kids from afar and still be doing what you want to do. It's like mom is saying, "Ok, this is my corner, you can go play and I'll be right here"

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 10:34 pm:

I like Mom's Cozy Corner, too. It sounds like a place to sit and enjoy a cup of tea.

By Cocoabutter on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 10:39 pm:

If you spell it Mom's Kozy Korner, it makes it look like it's a place for kids, too.

By Mrsheidi on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 10:49 pm:

I don't think Dana likes misspellings...but, I do like Mom's Cozy Corner. All the moms can say "Hey, you coming to the cozy corner this afternoon?"
Yeah...that's good!

By Missbookworm on Thursday, January 25, 2007 - 11:37 pm:

Ohhhh Mom's Cozy Corner gets my vote!!

By Sandysmom on Friday, January 26, 2007 - 09:39 am:

Bump, Dana, what do you think?

By Luvn29 on Friday, January 26, 2007 - 06:26 pm:

I really like Mom's Cozy Corner a lot! Great name!

By Kym on Friday, January 26, 2007 - 07:20 pm:

OK I have crazy thoughts in the middle of the night, last night was about this, my thought was The Zen Den
Where moms stay and kids play!

Not sure if Zen is "up your alley" but thought I'd pass along a random thought!

By Dana on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 08:59 am:

I'm back! I've been running around like crazy getting things ready.

Darn, I wish I saw this post last night. I just ordered my business cards using "The Mommy's Clubhouse" I don't like the word "the" but that is just there so I can have a website.

I like Mom's Cozy Corner too.

I will have to check to see if that name (Cozy) is avail as a website. If it is, I may just change everything and go w/ that. It was only business cards and I can easily order more.

By Dana on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 09:01 am:

I checked the website, Momscozycorner exists. But Mommyscozycorner does not.

So do you like Mommy's Cozy Corner?

By Mrsheidi on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 09:07 am:

I checked www.mcc.com and it's not taken! That would work!

By Kate on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 09:21 am:

Yes, I like Mommy's Cozy Corner, and I like it better than Mommy's Clubhouse! Good luck! Your toys sound awesome!! (I read your other post)

By Nicki on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 09:40 am:

What a great sounding place! Yes, the need for indoor play areas are needed, even here in Ca. where we usually get so much rain this time of year. And what a great place for moms to meet each other.
Best of luck to you, Dana! This sounds like such a fun business venture!

By Tink on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 11:34 am:

I haven't chimed in at all about the name idea since none of them jumped out at me but I LOVE Mommy's Cozy Corner and I think either the full name as a website or mcc.com would stick with me. Best of luck, Dana! I'm so happy for you. It must be meant to be with the way it's all coming together for you.

By Sandysmom on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 04:20 pm:

Yayyyyyyy!!!!!!!!

By Justanaunt on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 06:04 pm:

I also like Mom's Cozy Corner. Your business sounds great. Good luck with everything.
