How can I locate grants for women opening businesses?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2007: How can I locate grants for women opening businesses?

Without paying a fee for online listings. I used to have a book years ago so I know there are grants out there. Has anyone ever used this method to aide in starting a business?

Dana, as a business owner for over 6 years I can tell you that they are not as easy or as readily available as is put our there, largely by people selling the publications you mention above. grants.gov list all the grants available and qualifications, you can also visit your local community college they are set up with a small business development center to aid in getting started, this is a free resource. Most cities usually have a S.C.O.R.E office that is a free resource as well. But funding usually comes from you:)

Hope that helps, if you need other help feel free to e-mail me at selfindulgence at cox dot net

Thanks Kym! I'm sure I will be contacting you for some helpful hints. My biggest concern, even beyond getting the customer, is my lack of organization. I swear the first thing I am going to do when I start making enough money is hire a secretary. I'm praying that my habits at home are totally different when at work. I know I used to be a terrific worker for others...and even a great secretary LOL. I need to treat myself as well as I treated my old bosses.

OK Dana don't ask me about organizational tips:) Not my strong point, an assistant is a beautiful thing! But I'd be happy to assist you in any other way I can! Your business sounds great, as I read about it on the other "naming" post, a service all of us mama's could/should use!
