Always be careful when you go out!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2007: Always be careful when you go out!!
By Tonya on Monday, January 15, 2007 - 09:57 am:

This is just a warning to all of you and to your family too. When you go to the bar even with friends don't even let friends buy you drinks unless you are there when it is made watching.

My brother was out with a ton of friends Saturday night at the bar as were my best friend and I and someone slipped something in his drink. He went from fine one minute to wasted and vommiting the next. Best friend and I were drinking pop so we took care of him and his vehicle and got them both to his house safely. But if we would have left when we planned we would not have been there to help him.

He got to bed at 12:30am Sunday morning and slept until my dad woke him yesterday at 7pm then was back asleep and didn't remember this morning when dad woke him again. He called off work today because he still feels funny.

He lives alone so we all kept going over yesterday to check on him. He only remembers one of the visits. He says he remembers nothing from that night other than he was fine 1 minute and the next he was on the side of the road sick. Dad went down this morning to check on him and he was sitting on the side of his bed and kept telling our dad I didn't drink but a few and I don't remember anything.

So folks quick lesson be safe and pay attention always.

He should have went to the ER and contacted the police. He is lucky to still be living! Wow, what a scare!!

Until this morning when dad talked to him the idea never crossed our minds. And by now all of it is out of his system if this is what actually happened. When we took him home we just thought it was over worked, under sleep and alcohol mixed it just made a very drunk and sick brother. But the more we thought about it the more we realized he didn't have very many and for him to not remember is what makes us think soemthing might have happened.

Wow. How scary! I imagine it's not too late to contact the police. They may not be able to do much about it, but at least they would know something happened and may watch this particular bar a little more closely. OR they may have had complaints before that this may be tied into.

Friends of ours own the bar so he is going to go to them and let them know what happened so they are aware.

And everything I have read today and have heard the drugs people give you for this are always out of your system 12-24hrs within having been given the drug. So it is far out of his system by now.

He for sure is aware now of what can happen and said he is not planning on going out for a while that this scared him enough to know he needs to just stay home and vegitate.

I agree Cat, he still needs to go to the police & let them know what happened, just because the next person might not be as lucky as he is. IMO that is just the responsible thing to do!

Wow, that's so scary! I'm glad he is doing better now.
I will definitely be watching them make my drink the next time I go out, and make sure i don't let that drink out of my site!

I am sorry to say this, but I think the police will say that with no blood tests to establish whether the drink was contaminated in some way (knock-out drops or something else), there is nothing they can do. I do agree that if anything like that happens, the Emergency Room should be your first stop. If someone seems fine one minute and starts vomiting the next, to my mind that is an ER issue, no question.

Unfortunately, there are jerks out there - one of them might even be a friend or drinking buddy - who think it is "funny" to drop something into someone's drink. They never stop to think of the consequences, especially if the victim has a serious allergic reaction. Your brother is lucky you were there, and lucky to have family to look in on him frequently and make sure he was OK. If the bar had just put him in a cab and sent him home, heaven knows what might have been the result.
