Need a Dessert Suggestion

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2007: Need a Dessert Suggestion
By Heaventree on Thursday, January 11, 2007 - 01:01 pm:

We are having a house full this weekend again. I'm just going to make a large lasagna with garlic bread and a salad.

I need an easy crowd pleasing dessert, obviously something not too heavy as the meal is rather heavy. We will have adults and children ranging from ages 16 months - 5 years. I need a no nut recipe.

TIA

I love this recipe and you can also use Blueberries or any other favorite fruit filling.

Cherries in the Snow

8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 C powdered sugar
16 oz. cool whip
21 oz. can pie filling
10 inch angel food cake, already made is fine

Cream together the cream cheese and sugar. Fold into cool whip. Spread 1/2 this mixture in a 9x13 dish. Tear angel food cake into pieces and arrange a layer of these over the cream cheese/sugar/cool whip mixture. Spread the remaining cheese/sugar/chool whip mixture on top. Top this layer with your pie filling. Refrigerate overnight.

That sounds so good, Andi. I'm going to try that :)

Here is one that we always do that is a crowd pleaser. I would double it if serving more than 6. People tend to eat a lot!

2 small packages french vanilla instant pudding
2 cups buttermilk
small container cool whip
1 can mandarin oranges
1 can pineapple
1 package fudge stripe cookies

Pour buttermilk into bowl. Add french vanilla pudding POWDER. Mix well with electric mixer. Add cool whip, mix well. Stir in fruits. Just before serving, top with crushed fudge stripe cookies.

Thanks to you both they both sound good. I might go with the second one only because I have buttermilk in the fridge that is about to expire.

Question for Bre though, what are fudge stripe cookies? Can you give me a brand name?

By Luvn29 on Thursday, January 11, 2007 - 06:27 pm:

Keebler's Fudge Stripe cookies is the name! LOL! They are the flat, circle shaped shortbread cookies with a hole in the middle. There are thin chocolate stripes on one side, and the bottom is completely covered in chocolate.

Thanks Adena, but I have no idea what those are, I guess they don't sell them here. I suppose I could just buy any kind of fudge cookies as they are crushed up anyway.

Both those recipes sound good and EASY! My kind of recipe.

By Breann on Thursday, January 11, 2007 - 07:46 pm:

Yep, Keebler's. There is also a wal-mart brand. They are just thin cookies, with stripes of fudge on them, and a layer of fudge on the back. Let's see, I'm trying to think of what other cookies would taste good. Maybe a crisp shortbread cookie would be good :)

Here is a link to the fudge striped cookies, just to give you an idea of what they are:

I don't have a recipe but how about canoli (sp?) A very good italian dessert.

By Sandysmom on Thursday, January 11, 2007 - 08:37 pm:

cannoli recipe

I'm wondering if you can leave out the almonds.

By Hol on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 10:54 pm:

As far as the cookies, couldn't you use crushed up chocolate wafers, or crushed up Oreo's?

My mother-in-law used to make a delicious dessert, and bring it when she came to visit. I think it was as follows: split "lady fingers"in half lengthwise (they are usually already split). Line the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Make 2 packages of instant lemon pudding, and spread over the lady fingers. Drain a can of crushed pineapple and distribute evenly over the pudding. Whip heavy cream with enough sugar to sweeten, and spread over the pineapple. Refrigerate for eight hours before serving.

It was SO-O-O good! I think I'll make some this weekend. :)
