I Had Fun Tonight!!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2007: I Had Fun Tonight!!!

There is a little pub down in the valley near my house where DH and the boys and I go to eat sometimes. The food is good, and even though they serve alcohol, and some of the patrons get a little "happy", it is a fun place. The folks that go there are the salt of the earth...hard working country people. They stick together. One of the patrons was tragically killed in a motorcycle rally this past Fall, and the patrons raised quite a lot of money for his family.

I called DH and Shawn tonight after I got out of work to see if they wanted to go out for fish & chips. Mike was working. DH told me to meet him and Shawn at the pub. After we ate, the music for the evening was karaoke. Bob left and went home because he has to be up for work at 5:30AM. However, since we went in two cars, Shawn stayed with me, and we went and got Mike at work at 8:00. We went back to the pub for the karaoke. I had a BLAST! I got up and sang several songs alone, and the DJ did a duet with me, as did one of the other patrons. (The latter guy is a guy about my age and does a great Elvis!) My boys were laughing so hard at me. They already think that their old Mom is nuts. I don't drink alcohol, so my fun was all borne of Diet Coke. LOL!

We stayed until they closed. It was also entertaining to watch some of the others who WEREN'T drinking Coke. However, no one lets anyone drive drunk there, so everyone got home safely. My DH is kind of a party pooper anyway, so I'm glad he went home. I'd definitely do it again.

Sounds like fun. I love going out for fish, on Friday nights!

WTG! I could NEVER do karaoke!!! I envy those of you who are brave enough to do that. LOL

That does sound like a fun time Hol! :) I've done karaoke once and it was at an ice cream karoake place in Ft. Worth with our youth kids on a mission trip. The other female chaperones and I got up and sang "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" Marilyn Monroe-style. I could never sing by myself.

We had a fun night too! We hosted a murder mystery for our Sun school class. I was Judy Garland and dH was Groucho Marx. I'll try to post pics later. Jimi Hendrix did it though. :)

Pam, that sounds like fun! I wish we had an ice cream karaoke place around here. I don't really like taking my boys to a place where people get intoxicated, but they are level-headed kids (ages 19 and 18) and they did not view the ones that were, as anybody to model themselves after.

I could never have sung by myself either, in my younger days, but when you get older, what people think matters less (except, of course, in matters of morality and manners). I LOVE to sing. I sing everywhere...church, the car, the shower. I love all kinds of music, except rap. My DH is a bit of a "stiff", and "says" he can't sing, though he sounds pretty good in church. Music is so uplifting for the soul.

The man who sings like Elvis has a great bass voice, and I sing soprano/alto. We sang "Are You Lonesome Tonight", and when it got to the "talking" part, I did back up. Everybody said that we sounded good together. Then, the DJ and I did "You Were Always on my Mind", the old Willie Nelson song. When I sang "Harper Valley PTA" with a Southern accent, my DS's were cracking up!! :)

It was just great fun, and a happy way to end a long work week. :)
