Easy way to tear up carpet?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2007: Easy way to tear up carpet?
By Marg on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 - 11:34 am:

Help me ladies.

I'm one of those do it yourself women.

I would like to lay my own carpet, the kind you get at lowes.

Anyway, is there any easy way to tear up a carpet. It is in a large living room.

Any suggestions on tearing up the old and laying down the new.

Start in the corner and work yourself over to the other corner and just try to roll it as you go. When you get 3/4 across the room, loosen the other side so you don't have a big roll of carpet in your way. Good Luck!

If you don't care about the current carpet just get a very sharp utility knife from the hardware store. It cuts carpet very easily. This way you can cut the carpet up in strips which will make it easier for you to remove on your own with out any Man Power!

When I removed all the carpet in our house, I cut it in long strips and rolled it up. It was easier to handle. Make sure you have a new blade--and replacement blades. The blade will dull quickly.
I have installed carpet and the most difficult part was seaming it together in an oversize room.
Just take your time and it will be a fairly easy DIY project. Have fun! I am also a do it yourself woman. My current project is gutting my kitchen :)
