Need help dealing with a mustache - mine!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2006: Need help dealing with a mustache - mine!
By Ginny~moderator on Sunday, December 17, 2006 - 07:04 pm:

I recently passed my 68th birthday, and one of the things I've noticed as I get older is that more and more of the hairs on my upper lip are coming in dark. I am debating between bleaching or using wax. Any experience? Any advice?

By Mommmie on Sunday, December 17, 2006 - 07:21 pm:

I've done both. Waxing hurts, but is quick. Bleaching works too, but the hair is still there and can be noticeable if it's thick enough.

Since I get my eyebrows waxed I just do the mustache too. It does tend to break my skin out though.

You might start with bleaching and see how it goes.

Personally, I would do the waxing. I think it looks nicer with the hair removed rather than just blonde or light. Waxing doesn't feel good, but it is quick. LOL I have found that I have less and less hair also now that I have had the waxing done a few times.

I used to wax, but my skin became too sensitive. I bought a micro-trimmer and I just shave off the hair. It works really well for me. I wish I'd tried it sooner!
I still get my eyebrows waxed, though.

You'll probably try a bunch of stuff until you find what works best for you.

I tweeze mine. With the trimer Ame does it come in thicker?

I have been waxing my lip and chin for years, and I do it myself. Of course it hurts a bit, but it's just for a second.
I have seen people who have used bleach, and I've found it's very obvious. I just saw someone like that at church tonight. Not pretty when there's more than a tiny bit.

I get waxxed when I get my hair cut. And I got a micro trimmer, too for in between waxes. It is probably the size of my middle finger, quick and easy. Don't use for about 5 days before a wax though.

And don't waste your money on the waxes you can buy at Wal-mart or similar stores. I've tried several and wasn't worth taking home. You might be able to buy a good wax at a beauty supply place but I haven't tried those.

BTW, Happy Birthday!

Waxing here. I apply a little bit of blemish cream (anything that you normally put on a zit!) over my lip after waxing and that stopped the breakouts. I take it in my purse the day I get the wax and apply it when I get to my car. Before that I always had breakouts on my lip afterward, or itchy bumps. Irritation of some kind. Good luck!

I would either use bleach or a micro-trimmer. Waxing hurts and for coarser hairs it can cause ingrown hairs. Also, look into something like a cream hair remover for the face. I think Nair has something in it's line of products. Good luck and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I pluck. I have really sensitive skin, so waxing leaves me red and irritated. I bought a magnifying mirror that magnifies 10X. I stand in really good light, preferably outside and pluck my brows, lip and chin.

Occassionally, I'll ask my DD to do it for me because she has younger eyes and can see better. She'll always laugh and say, "GREAT! Something ELSE to look forward to". LOL!!

No, it grows in very fine.
