An Internet question

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2006: An Internet question
By Janet on Saturday, December 16, 2006 - 04:21 pm:

I live in a small town, and our Internet provider is a neighbor of mine. I'm just wondering...is he able to "see" where I go on the Internet? If I have a mail account (like Yahoo), is he able to "get in" and read my stuff? I guess I'm paranoid...

Hmm, I would think so, but I don't know. Eewww, not that your looking at or doing anything you shouldn't be, but I wouldn't want someone I know to have that access either. Just kind of creepy for some reason!

It is totally against the law for him to do it without a warrant. If he values his business, he won't.

Couple of measures -

1) When you sign into yahoo , make sure you have not enabled/ticked "Remember my ID on this computer".

2) After you are done browsing, go to Tools->Internet Options

3) In the General Tab, Click on the following "Delete Cookies", "Delete Files" and "Clear History".

This should be enough to clean up your stored passwords if any, the history of pages visted and offline pages you visited.

My husband taught me this because I'd once in a while fill up the temporary space :)

Hope this makes you feel safer.

No, I'm not doing anything...well, you know... I just don't want him getting into my stuff. It's hard enough, living in an itty bitty place where everyone knows your business! Thanks, I feel better. :)

How about using a different internet provider who is not a neighbor?

By Cocoabutter on Sunday, December 17, 2006 - 11:14 pm:

Sometimes, in a small town, there isn't much of a choice for internet providers.

By Janet on Monday, December 18, 2006 - 09:38 pm:

Oh, he's the only game in town. My other choice would be to have an IP who's long-distance every time I get on. We waited for several years before getting connected to the Internet because he was developing his business and we knew it would be local. I'm very happy with the service, and the rates are good... I was just a bit paranoid. You know, is he sitting in his basement, monitoring my activity? I didn't know if it was possible to do that without my knowledge.
