How to clean stove-top?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2006: How to clean stove-top?

I have an electric stove, but the older kind with the coils and metal trays. I clean my metal trays often, but I noticed how gross it is underneath the trays tonight. It's just the flat metal service underneath. Lots of crumbs and stuff, but also some dried stuff, too. What would be the best thing to clean it with? TIA:)

The top should lift up. Just pull the metal coils out, take the drip pans out & then lift up on the top of the stove.
I use SOS pads & very hot water on mine.

Thanks Emily:) Yes, I knew to take that off, just wasn't sure what to clean it with. I forgot all about SOS pads...haven't used one in years and that would be great. Thanks!
