Dh received a TiVo box as a reward for selling a certain product. Do we need to subscribe to the TiVo service in addition to our regular cable?

By Kaye on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 - 04:51 pm:

Yep. They usually offer special near Christmas time for a full year.

Hmmm...I already have a DVR box through our cable company so does Tivo do some amazing things that my cable DVR can't? I'm thinking this may not have been such a wonderful "prize".

If you already have DVR then you don't need TiVO. We used to have TiVO but switched to DVR. They are very similar but DVR has more options.

LOL I guess it depends on your DVR, my dad has tivo and it has more options than my dvr.

Tivo services cost 199 a year ( i just checked out their website). I pay 14 a month for the dvr box with my cable, it is comparable i think.

Could you use the Tivo in another room in your house. OR give it as a Christmas gift to someone?

By Kaye on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 - 08:20 am:

You are right, you don't need both.

My dad has some sort of recordable dvd device. He told us to bring our wedding videos the last time we were there and he put them onto a DVD. Since we were married 19 years ago, I'm glad we have a more archival method of saving them now. I'm sure the videos won't last forever. It was fun watching them again, as they recorded, too!
