Dangerous surprise in my new pre lit christmas tree!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2006: Dangerous surprise in my new pre lit christmas tree!
By Amecmom on Saturday, November 25, 2006 - 08:46 pm:

We bought a beautiful GE just cut tree today. While putting it up and spreading out the branches I found a razor blade as long as my finger nestled in the bottom branches! OMG! Could you imagine the horror if my 5 year old or my 2 year old who were "helping" had found it? What if I hadn't seen it and got sliced?

My husband is writing to the company. What a horrible thing that could have turned out to be! It's probably a one in a million, but if you get a GE "Just Cut" (lol) pre-lit tree, check for weapons.

Wow. I'm glad you found it before the kids did.

Not only would I write a letter, I would also call the CPSC to report it. This is not something to take lightly, this could very likely be something done intentionally to hurt someone. Report it now. They do not recall things until there have been a minimum number of reports.

By Amecmom on Sunday, November 26, 2006 - 09:33 am:

I don't think this was done intentionally to hurt anyone. The people who pack the trees probably use the blades to cut off any excess plastic or paper or string left on the tree during the manufacturing process. My guess is someone was working, got called away and dropped the blade. Then, the nasty, rusty thing was forgotten about.

Nevertheless, I'll mention the CPSC to my husband and see what he wants to do.

I really didn't sleep last night, just thiking what could have happened.

That's awful. I'm so glad you didn't get hurt and that your kids didn't find it!
I don't think I would have slept last night either!

We have friends that bought a potted tree one year (you know the ones with the root ball that you can plant afterward). Well, they had a live snake in their tree. Apparently, he went to sleep wrapped around it, and when he got in where it was warm, it woke him up. They managed to get him out and let him go outside, alive. Now THAT'S a Christmas present! LOL!

Dh would have had a duck if a snake had come off the Christmas tree. Christmas would probably be canceled forever. LOL

But the razor blade thing. That makes me feel ill. I think you should notify all of the above. That is so scary. That is not something to take lightly.
