Christmas trees? When?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2006: Christmas trees? When?
By Tonya on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 02:17 pm:

So ladies when do you put up your holiday decorations and trees?

1

Ours is real every other year (DH loves real I do not!) on my fake years it goes up the day after Thanksgiving and on the real years it is 2 weeks before Christmas. My lights outside will probably go up this weekend because the weather will allow it. But they will not be turned on until the night after Thanksgiving.

By Colette on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 02:20 pm:

I buy a real tree and I do not put it up until about 2 weeks before christmas. I will put a wreath on my door and something by my outside front lights but nothing until December.

By Yjja123 on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 02:23 pm:

Christmas tree is up today with cranberry & popcorn garlands and cinnamon pinecones. We will decorate for Christmas (ornaments & lights, etc)after Thanksgiving.
We celebrate with some family the end of this month so that is why we decorate early.

By Breann on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 02:27 pm:

Two week from Saturday we will go chop our tree down. We usually decorate it that same weekend. We are always with family the day after thanksgiving, so this works better for us.

By Tripletmom on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 02:28 pm:

With three 18mth olds at Christmas!!!As late as possilbe.LOL

By Tayjar on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 02:32 pm:

The day after Thanksgiving. I will put our lights up outside before then but we don't turn them on until Thanksgiving evening.

By Dandjmom on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 02:38 pm:

Well lets see wrapped Christmas gifts last night while everyone was out so the tree will usually be the day after Thanksgiving, but I'm doing the Black Friday thing this year, so this year it is either Thanksgiving night or that Saturday after.

By Reds9298 on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 02:49 pm:

The weekend before T'Giving, fake trees here. Love the look of real ones, but they get so dry with the heat on non-stop.

By Trina~moderator on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 02:55 pm:

Fake tree here due to allergies and asthma. We put it up shortly after Thanksgiving and usually take it down on New Years Day.

By Kateg on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 02:58 pm:

Fake tree here & we will start decorating this weekend. I love Christmas & with our hectic schedule we want to enjoy it as much as possible. I'm not a believer in skipping Thanksgiving, but I love the holidays & love celebrating them.

By Coopaveryben on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 02:58 pm:

I will start next week. It takes so long to get everything just the way I want it I want to have time to enjoy it. I used to do it after Thanksgiving but I decided I like to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving and I don't want to spend our long weekend together decorating, this way we can enjoy. I use fake trees, I never remember to water the real ones and of course the needles start dropping like crazy.

By Amecmom on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 03:08 pm:

After Thanksgiving, for sure. I don't like to think about Christmas this early. I'll put it up 1st week in December, but not take it down until after January 6th. We do a fake tree. I did real one year and all the needles came off. never again for me.

ABout the second to third week in December. Will have to keep tabs on warm days, between now and Thanksgiving, so DH can get the icicle lights up. It's the only part I can't do. I suppose we could start rigging up the bushes, with the net lights, too, so we are ready by Thanksgiving!

By Tink on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 04:26 pm:

Fake tree here and I put it up the first weekend of December. I don't like to decorate for one holiday before I'm done with the one before it, unless there are extenuating circumstances. DH puts the outside lights up on his first day off after Thanksgiving while I put up the display that goes in our front window.

By Karefl on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 04:38 pm:

Real tree will go up the weekend after Thanksgiving.

By Nicki on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 05:53 pm:

I'm usually looking forward to putting up the tree by now, but this year I don't feel ready! I guess this fall weather has been so beautiful and I'm not ready for it to end. I'll probably feel ready after Thanksgiving. Artificial here, too. I like to keep it lit through New Years, but with a real one, we worry about it drying out and becoming a hazard.
Lol, Triplemom! I remember feeling like that with Lara for a couple years. :-)

By Bea on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 06:47 pm:

This year we'll be decorating very early, since we'll be on a cruise over Christmas, and will be doing our Holiday entertaining early in December. I'm hoping to have the entire house decorated by Thanksgiving, with the exception of the main tree, which will go up as soon as we return from Thanksgiving at our son's house. (There`s a Christmas tree in each room, including all the bedrooms). After one disastrous, needle dropping, naked tree experience, while living in Germany, we have used artificial trees. We now have a fold away 8 foot pre-lit tree. It's great.

I usually don't decorate for Christmas until after my birthday (Dec. 7th). I get a real tree every year since I left my ex husband. It's become tradition. It's something I've wanted since I was little and my children love having a real tree, too. My youngest is 7 so we get one that's just a foot or so taller than her. :)

By Enchens on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - 11:02 pm:

Well, Dh likes real trees, and since we have a house now with huge ceilings, I have a feeling he will get a little carried away. Our younger ds will be about 18 months at that time, so we'll see what we decide to do. We don't start decorating until the first Sunday of Advent. I like to do as much decorating as possible, even bought this cute wreath that jingles to put on the front door. Dh usually has to help me not get too crazy. lol

By Conni on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 06:46 am:

We are not putting up a tree this yr we are against the whole commercial christmas thing...

Ok, I am joking... I have no idea where to buy a real tree here. I dont think they are for sale yet. Last yr was my last yr to use our fake tree. We typically would put it up right after Thanksgiving. Now that Blake is older and we no longer have young puppies or a kitten... We are going to start buying a real tree again. :) I hope to have it bought and put up the 1st week of December... We have things going on and/or are traveling on and off for the 3 weeks after that...

By Bellajoe on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 08:39 am:

We will probably put the tree (fake) up the first weekend of December.

We don't do lights on the outside of the house. Dh is afraid of heights, so he won't put them on the house. And this year our bushes and shrubs in the front are new and very tiny, so they'd look silly with lights on them LOL. Maybe i wil put a wreath on the door with a spot light on it, just so it looks like we actually celebrate the holiday! Our tree will be in our family room so you can't even see it from the front window.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 08:58 am:

I forgot to mention, we get a real tree. We put it by our south window, even though the west window, is the one that faces the street, because there isn't a heating vent, below the south window, and there is, by the west window. We don't want the furnace air drying out the tree.

I always get a wreath from the 4H, and I always get it from the same girl at church every year. It's already been ordered!

By Janet on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 03:12 pm:

We never get one before December, usually around the second week or so. It stays up until after New Year's, whatever weekend that is. It's always a real one. Growing up, the magic date was Dec. 15. It NEVER went up before then!

By Cocoabutter on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 03:23 pm:

About 2 weeks before Christmas.

By Annie2 on Thursday, November 2, 2006 - 05:27 pm:

We put out a real tree about two weeks before Christmas and I usually take it down the day after New Years.

By Andi on Friday, November 3, 2006 - 10:50 am:

We go to a tree farm every year and cut down our Christmas Tree. We usually go about two weeks after Thanksgiving.
