We are fighting LICE with one of our DSGS..I watch him and his brother 3Xs a wk... well the 5 yr old keeps getting them...his brother doesnt have them I check both of their heads often when I have them...I am soooooo tired of finding them in his head...I use the lice shampoo... I even put olive oil on his head first then I comb that thru then wash that out real good them I dry it then I put the LICE shampoo on it. I tell his Mom to do ALL of his sheets, blankets and everything his head touch...I'm soooo TIRED of this...I'm ready to SHAVE his LITTLE head..only thing stopping me is that picture day is 10-11 after that I'm ready to do it.
NO they do NOT live with us..I'm talking to Mom And Dad when they pick them up soon hopefully..They will be buying me another bottle of that stuff..
Any ideas!!!

get a small bottle of tea tree essential oil. In my dd's 1st grade class, every kid but 5 got them. As soon as I heard it was in her class, I started researching how to keep them away. She was shampooed every day and her hair was put into braids and then I put a couple of drops of tea tree oil on my hands and ran them over her hair. She never got them.

It is, as you mentioned, EXTREMELY crucial that the ENVIRONMENT be treated as well. Not only should the sheets, pillowcases, towels, clothes, stuffed animals be washed in hot water (and hung out in the sun, if possible), but pillows, upholstered furniture, etc. should be sprayed with a special spray that you can buy in the drugstore near the lice shampoo.

Also, if over-the -counter shampoos such as Nix and Rid don't work, it may be nessecary to get a doctor's prescription for Lindane, which is much stronger. However, some doctors don't like to use it on children because it IS so strong. (It is also prescribed for adults with scabies and crab lice). I used to work in a pharmacy. We used to hear it "all". LOL!

Again, tho, treating the environment is key in eradicating them. Good luck.

My DD's best friend's mom just called me today to say her dd has them. She spent the night here last weekend. I am itching just thinking about it. I checked DD and she is fine. I went out and bought tea tree oil today and put some on her heard before I shampooed her and a little in her shampoo. Can't hurt might help. The mom also said she thinks the girl might have fleas as well(they have pets) I have never heard of that before! I have cleaned and washed all day just in case!

The most important thing is to get a proper lice comb. If you don't get all of the nits out, they will keep multiplying.

It's not a good idea to use the shampoo over and over, because it is a pesticide.
Try putting mineral oil on his head and leaving it on over night. I know it's messy, but it really helps. Do that whenever he's with you for the next while, in case any new nits hatch.
We've been through this several times, and it's NOT fun!! Good luck!

Ugh. We had lice once. That was enough. We put the stuffed animals in plastic bags for 2 weeks. We never got it back. We also washed all the sheets and sprayed in the car and vacuumed everything. It was so much work.

Speaking of the car, don't forget the booster!
