We have Mice!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2006: We have Mice!

In the attic. I was laying in bed this morning before the alarm went off and I could hear them in the wall above my head. It is getting cold out so they are looking for warm places to sleep. I hate hearing those nasty little critters in my ceiling! I am going to the city today to get poison to throw up there yuck yuck yuck!!

We had mice and/or rats in our attic. We did the killing of them, but that was only temporary. DH looked and looked for openings they were using and fixed anything he thought was a problem. However, it continued. Then when we was fixing our outside roof, he located the real problem. They were sneaking in under the shingling and going thru rotted wood. DH had to remove 4 full slats to fix the roof. Once that was complete, we haven't had rodents again. Moral of the story: you have an extrance into your attic and poison is only temporary fix. You need to find the whole to keep them out.

Life is so much better now w/out mice in the attic! They cause a nasty stink to the house too.

We got these little things to plug into the walls that make a sonic noise that you can't hear. And the mice disappeared. Have to be sure to keep them away from hamsters or other rodent pets though. We had mice about 3 weeks ago. We killed 2 with those old fashioned mice traps. Ewwww! Dh took care of that while I hid my head. But after we plugged a couple of those things in, no more mice.

We had a mouse problem when we first moved in. We used the sticky traps and bait. The key to stopping it was to find out where they were coming in. They were coming in where our stove top vent is, so dh put some wire mesh stuff over the outside vent. We caught about 5 of them before he did that, but we haven't caught any since dh used the mesh. I haven't found any droppings either, so I think we fixed the problem. They are nasty little critters! LOL. Creeps me out just thinking about them in my house.
