Social studies homework help - need book suggestions

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2006: Social studies homework help - need book suggestions

DD, who's a sophomore has to do a book report for history class. Her topic is going to be "Asian immigration to the US in the late 1800's".

Now she needs to find a non fiction book about it. Any suggestions?

Try Amazon.com Type in search terms "asian immigration U.S." It brought up 77 results for me. Amazon gives a brief descripton of each book when you click on the title, and reviews from both professional reviewers and non-professional readers.

(If your first search produces no results, go into Advanced Search, select History as your topic, and use the search terms I gave you - that's how I got my results."

And, of course, try the college library and your local library - ask the librarian how to search.

Coming to America : immigrants from the Far East Linda Perrin.

Becoming Americans : Asian sojourners, immigrants, and refugees in the western United States / Tricia Knoll

I don't know what years these cover, but they are titles my own library has.

That's good! (I love being able to check the "card catalog", from home!)
