I Turned My Furnace on Last Night...BRRRR..........

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2006: I Turned My Furnace on Last Night...BRRRR..........

It got SO cold here last night. It got down to 41 degrees. I closed the windows, but the house still felt cold, so I "bit the bullet" and started the furnace. I always have the oil tank filled in the summer when prices are lower, so we have plenty.

I just find it incredible that just a few weeks ago, we were "melting" from the extreme heat. In fact Bob (my DH) and Mike just took the AC's out of the windows two weeks ago.

It was so nice to wake up this morning and be nice and toasty warm. Mike and I both have asthma and wake up wheezing if it is too cold in the house.

That's life in New England. If you don't like the weather, wait a minute. LOL!

Shhh!! hush your mouth...

We are still running air, for now.. Love Fall so all is good.. but I am okay with holding off on needing the heat.. LOL

You are sooo lucky... I normally don't like winter and fall but this summer has changed my mind. I just want to be able to wear jeans without burning up... it is cool today with a high of 85 (i think the low is 70)!!! Send some of that cool weather our way!!

I'm close. The first floor in my house is soooo cold! Upstairs in Sarah's room, it is fine, despite the fact that that AC unit is still in a window up there and has access to outside air. I told Sarah it's because heat rises. The basement isn't too bad, because it's protected from the wind.

It was 69 in the house, when I woke up this morning. We usually have the house set at 68, when we turn on the furnace. I didn't turn it on, though. I figure I can still put on long sleeves and/or a sweatshirt.

Later in the week, it's supposed to warm up again. I'm going to try not to turn on the furnace, if I can avoid it.

Wow, Hol, it hsan't been quite that cold here yet! We only drop into the 50's. If it was 41 outside, I would for sure have my furnace on.

I would have turned our on already, but it's not working so I had to call the service people. I made an appointment for next week, just to keep away from the temptation of turning it on too soon. It was in the 40's the other night and has been in the 50's during the day.

I'm trying to train myself to reach for a sweater, rather than the thermostat.

61 outside, but it feels colder. 69 in the house. It feels cold there, too. I put on a sweatshirt.

I love the fall weather, but I was tempted to turn mine on too. I had the windows open during the day and forgot to shut them when we went to bed. It was in the 40's up here too and it was freezing in the house. The basement was warmer than the upstairs.

Bob brought some of the plants in tonight. They did very well out on the patio all summer, but it won't be long before we get a frost. We have a palm plant and a "peace" lily out there that will have to come in soon, too.

It was freezing this morning when I took Shawn to work. It really warmed up nicely in the afternoon, but got cold again when the sun went down. This is the kind of weather where it is easy to leave sweaters and jackets behind somewhere. You wear them in the morning, take them off and forget them.

I would give ANYTHING TO HAVE FALL AGAIN! I really dislike the climate of Florida. I miss the smell of leaves and changing colours and pumpkin/apple orchards, crisp, cold ar making your cheeks red, sewatshirts, etc. Its still getting in the 90s here and I can't take it! Take some pictures ladies, I miss it!

LOL Kim... Our leaves are starting to change already. The hay fields are being bailed, the corn is nearing time for harvest and the fall festivals are gearing up around here.. We had rain all day yesterday and I had to run out late last night to get Callie, there was a wonderful cool wind stirring up.. I love fall...

We'll take more pictures, when the leaves are more colored. It's just starting here!
