That time of year again (I hate it!). I never liked school and now have to help by dd with homework. Fourth grade, mind you, and have NO idea the symbols for long/short vowels. Vowels were never my thing. Is a long vowel the symbol, a straight line over the a, or the curved line? Did a google search and no help!
long vowel is straight line. Short is curved...
I believe that if you look in the front of a dictionary, there is a key to the phonetics symbols. HTH!
