My dd will be heartbroken. She loved him (to the extent you couldn't even make fun of him or call him silly etc. She would get very defensive of him. It was very sweet and cute) How very sad for his family

By Boxzgrl on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 10:22 am:

I just read about this. How sad.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 10:29 am:

My first thought this morning was for his poor wife and children.. They are so young... This is way to sad..

By Luvn29 on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 10:38 am:

I can't imagine them going through this. They seemed like such a close family, doing everything together. My heart is broken for his wife and two young children, who are now 8 and almost 3.

Our family loved Steve Irwin and watched him many times together. We mourn the loss of a terrific guy.

Steve Irwin

When we were in South Dakota, we watched Steve Irwin's Great Escapes, where he visited 7 National Parks in the US. He was so cute with his family and the kids were adorable, too! We enjoyed watching his son, throughout the show! Sarah and I feel so bad, for his kids and wife now! We only got to see the show, because we were in a hotel with cable. At home, we don't get Animal Planet, or the Travel Channel, since we are too cheap to pay for it.

(We only have basic for the TV and the fastest service for the internet. It's expensive enough and I can't imagine paying more.)

That is very sad, his poor family.

How Sad:( Prayers to his family. His children are so young. I am just watching CNN and they are airing a story about him.

I was sad to hear this last night. The thought did cross my mind that he died doing something he loved but I doubt that is much comfort to his family right now.

By Joy~bundles on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 11:55 am:

Oh, I am just sitting here stunned. I can't even believe it. My heart just breaks for his wife and children. Bindi, his daughter, was a total Daddy's girl from the past footage I've seen - just like her Dad in every sense. I just grieve for her, precious little girl.

After all the dangerous things he's done, it's so hard to believe that a freak accident with a stingray is what killed him.

So heartbreakingly sad. I'm just stunned. :(

By Janet on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 01:50 pm:

WHAT??????? This is the first I've heard of this! Oh my gosh! :(

By Nicki on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 01:50 pm:

How shocking and sad. I feel so for his family.

By Crystal915 on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 03:46 pm:

I was so shocked to see this last night!!! Oh, and for those of you familiar with the shows, didn't he have a grown daughter who helped him on shows? Was I imagining that? They didn't mention her as a surviving family member, but I seem to remember a daughter named Christine, or something like that.

By Yjja123 on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 03:54 pm:

His wife helped him, I do not know about an older daughter. VERY sad! He will be missed.

By Imamommyx4 on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 06:58 pm:

I've always thought he was nuts but I love to watch his shows. He just seemed like a good guy. And even when he got into trouble, his "likableness" seemed to pull him through. And on top of feeling horrible for his wife and kids, don't you know that crew that was with him feel awful? Even though they did everything they could, you know they'll always be thinking "what if?". It's just tragic.

By Luvn29 on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 07:02 pm:

The cameraman diving with him was his good friend...maybe best friend. He didn't even know it happened till he saw blood in the water and turned him around to face him. So sad for everyone involved.

By Sunny on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 08:20 pm:

:(

By Dawnk777 on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 09:09 pm:

I'm sure the crew feels bad, too.

By Hol on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 11:23 pm:

It is sad for his wife and children :(, but when you do what he did for a living, I'm sure that they knew that his being killed was a very real possibility. At least he died quickly, and doing something that he loved.

I guess that, compared to some of the other creatures he has dealt with over the years, the stingray is not very dangerous. That is, not very likely to attack. I have always said that...you can worry yourself to death about something, but it won't be the thing that you worry about that gets you. It's the thing you don't see coming.

By Hol on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 11:24 pm:

I was watching CNN and they said that his Mom died very tragically in an auto accident a few years ago.

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 04:38 pm:

Ok, so it's been bugging me about why I thought he had a grown daughter, I think I was thinking of Jack Hanna. I really feel for his family, he's younger than my dad, it's so tragic!

By Hol on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 09:05 pm:

I heard on TV tonight that he may have caused his death, or at least hastened it, by pulling the barb out of his chest. I remember seeing that on one of those "Trauma in the ER" shows on TLC. They said that, if you are ever impaled by something, to leave it there until you can get to surgery. That, by removing it, you actually CAUSE more damage. There was a bizarre story on TV about a woman who was throwing dirty laundry over her bannister and it let go, and she fell on a microphone stand, or something, that her husband had in the living room. It went almost through her. She knew to leave it there and call 911. They said that, if she had pulled it out, she would have died. I guess it's instinct, tho, to try to pull it out.

Steve Irwin's death was so bizarre. What are the odds that the stingray would get him right in the chest instead of the abdomen or leg where he might have survived.

I truly believe in pre-destination.

By Cocoabutter on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 - 09:44 pm:

Sad :(
