Our Beta Fish is in "fishy" Heaven......

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2006: Our Beta Fish is in "fishy" Heaven......
By Hol on Saturday, September 2, 2006 - 12:13 am:

Poor "Ming" passed away, but I am not exactly sure when. He was in Shawn's room, on a shelf in his bookcase. I would always say "Did you feed Ming tonight?". He'd say, "Of course I did". I did the cleaning of the bowl when it needed it.

Well, I assumed that when Shawn fed him, he would check him and make sure that he was okay. He wasn't a very active Beta anyway, and liked to hang out at the bottom of his bowl. A few times, we thought that he had passed on, but he was just doin' his thing.

Well, I had a feeling tonight, so I told Shawn to check him. He was in two pieces, and looked like a tiny blob of goo in the bottom of the bowl. Shawn said that "something ate him". Since the bowl has a vented top on it, that is impossible. He was just terribly decomposed.

I asked Shawn "Don't you check on his well-being when you feed him?" He said, "No. I just open the cover and drop in the food." I was so annoyed. Just when you THINK that teen-agers are starting to develop some sense, they dash your hopes. But they "know" everything. Just ask them. :)

Sounds very typical, IMO..........as recently as last year, Jeff had a fish and forgot to feed it till that happened. Go figure. Proof that a 22 y/o can still be as irresponsible as a 12 y/o...... Sorry to hear about your fish.

Sorry to hear about Ming. That sure isn't what you want to find when you look in the bowl!!

Nicole, 13, bought herself 2 betas last week, and one is gone already. I checked on them and saw them both swimming in their bowls, and a few hours later one was gone. He was at a small space between his castle and the rocks. I think he got wedged and couldn't get out.

Are they fragile? They have one on the counter in the office at Michael's school, and he/she has been there forever. Whenever anyone checks in at the office, the fishy comes over to the side of the bowl to "greet" them. :)

Karen - Shawn will be 19 next month, even though he ACTS like 12 sometimes. It sounds like he and Jeff are peas in a pod. LOL!

:( I'm sorry.

Marcia betas cannot be in the same tank together they will fight until 1 dies. That is their nature. That is why in the stores they are alone never 2 in 1 open area.

The alive one probably won the battle.

Tonya, they each had their own bowl.
