Remember the two college girls that were in the crash in Indiana in April?

The truck driver that struck the van is being charged with five counts of reckless homicide and other charges.

From the Chicago Tribune:

A four-month investigation showed trucker Robert F. Spencer exceeded federal driving-time limits when his speeding tractor-trailer crossed an Interstate 69 median and collided with the university van on April 26, said Grant County Prosecutor James Luttrull Jr.

On the day of the accident, Spencer had driven at least nine hours more than what is allowed under federal rules, said chief deputy prosecutor Bill Heck.

Statements from witnesses and equipment tests suggested Spencer fell asleep at the wheel before his semitrailer -- loaded with baking flour -- drifted across the median and slammed into the university van midway between Fort Wayne and Indianapolis.

A probable cause affidavit said Spencer had the truck's air conditioner blowing at maximum-strength with his windows down -- even though the temperature outside was 52 degrees.

Records show he called his sister on his cell phone minutes before the accident but fell silent just before the crash occurred. His sister heard a "bang" and then heard rescuers attending to her brother, the affidavit said.

When authorities arrived at the crash site, Spencer looked at the wrecked van and said, "Did I hit something? What happened? Who did this?" the affidavit said.

It is very sad. To find out the guy probably fell asleep, makes me even sadder.
