Update on my doggies surgery

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2006: Update on my doggies surgery

We picked my dog up yesterday from the vet. Of course, once the vet tech walked her in, my dog came right up to me first :) She had a her tail wagging and everything. She looked so pitiful though. She had that big collar thing on her head, her back leg all bandaged up like a cast, and she had this ace bandage looking thing around her middle. Come to find out, that is her pain patch.I am glad my husband was there to help pick her up and put her in the van, and help her out when we got home. When we got home, she kind of just stood in one place for almost 30 minutes. I showed her where her nice comfy bed was. Finally she laid down. She is having a hard time adjusting to the collar on her head. They said it has to stay on for 14 days, when the bandage stuff comes off her leg. The pain patch can come off tomorrow. I do have a pain medicine here they gave us as well.
I have been bringing her treats to her, so she doesnt have to get up. It took her awhile to figure out how to drink and eat with that thing on. She is a little sleepy still, they said from the pain patch. The other dogs dont seem to know exactly what that thing is around her neck. I was prepared to sleep downstairs with her. But, we did not hear a peep from her all night.
We have to guide her into the backyard, as you have to go through the narrow laundry room to get outside. Right now we dont need to use a leash because she goes outside, stands in one spot, steps 3 feet does her business and we bring her right in.
I have made arrangements to have my 2 dogs to go to 2 separate houses for my vacation next month. They want her on limited activity for 2-3 months. My friend who will watch her does not have any other dogs(or kids LOL), so it should be a quiet restful place for her.
Its going to be a long 2 weeks for my dog with that collar on.
All in all, she is doing AOK :)

I'm glad the surgery went okay. Hopefully, the next 2 weeks will go by fast.

Glad to hear she's doing OK. I'm sure you'll be giving her lots of TLC! I hope recovery goes well and she's back to normal soon.

Glad she's doing well, Jackie. I can appreciate your wanting to bring stuff to her so she won't have to get up. But it's probably better if she *does* move around, even though you feel it's painful for her. She won't do anything that hurts her, you can bet on that.

Keep us posted on her progress. BTW, what date is your cruise?

By Jackie on Thursday, July 27, 2006 - 08:13 am:

Our cruise is Aug 20th-27th. We are leaving on Aug 19th though, and going to spend over night with my parents in the Ft Lauderdale area.
