Lovely summer supper

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2006: Lovely summer supper

Played hard on Monday and Tuesday, taking Sarah to visit a nearby college campus, and then going swimming at the quarry, with my friend and her daughter, along with my girls.

On Tuesday, we decided to do Blue Harbor's waterpark, since they had a special for July, that it would only be $10 for the whole day, instead of the normal price. Usually only $10 after 3pm. So, we play hard all day, at the waterpark, from 12:30pm until about 8pm. We are tired when we leave, but I still want to make a pasta salad for Wed supper.

So, Sarah helps me and we get it all done. We made Chicken Pasta Salad with Blueberries Yummy. It's hard to put it in the fridge, without digging in. I have fresh oregano growing out in a flower garden, so I have VERY fresh oregano to put in it! While I'm making it, I realize that just off the top of my head, I only forgot one necessary ingredient at the store - the celery! Not too bad for something that calls for lots of stuff.

So, today, the kids walked to the store, to buy celery and a couple fruits for a fruit salad. I came home from working ALL day, to the celery all cut up and put in the salad and the fruit salad all made! (Canteloupe, watermelon, kiwifruit, strawberries, and mandarin oranges.) The kids did an awesome job picking out the best fruit, too! The canteloupe and kiwifruit, were both perfect! What a wonderful thing to come home to, after being at work all day. We barely made a dent in the salad, too, so plenty for tomorrow.

The funny thing is about eating at home, is that if it's just the girls for supper, the dog goes in her crate, while we eat and doesn't bother us AT ALL. If DH is home, she usually comes and starts working him for handouts, since he's such a sucker! LOL! When we first got her, we crated her, during meals. As she gained more freedom in the house, we stopped doing that, but she goes into her crate, anyway, all on her own! Sometimes DH makes it home for supper and sometimes he doesn't. It always seems that if we eat at home with something yummy and homemade, he's too busy, with work, to be able to take time for supper. :( On the other hand, if it ends up being McDonald's, then he manages to eat with us! LOL!

What a nice evening, sure sounds a lot better than your dinner out at Applebees!

Wow, that sounds very good. And very time consuming !

If i made that, my dh would look at it and look at my like i was nuts! And then he would tell me that it looks....interesting.
Chicken Pasta and blueberries don't usually go together. But like i said, it sounds good to me!

So nice that your dd's had the fruit salad all made and ready to eat by the time you got home. Those girls sound so sweet, mature, and helpful! I hope my kids turn out like them

I like weird food! I'm adventurous and like trying new things! Chicken Pasta and Blueberries was just weird enough for me to want to try it! LOL!
