School starting next week--I'm already stressed!!!

Oh my goodness there are SO many dates and things to do! We got Robin's supply list off line this weekend and got his supplies. That in itself was hard because the list was so vague. Things like "pocket folders" but no quantity and "a 3 ring binder with dividers for each class or a 1" 3 ring binder for each class" but I don't know how many classes he'll have! So we got a bunch of stuff and what he doesn't need we'll use for something else and if he needs something else we'll go get it. I still need to get new lunch boxes (bags, boxes aren't cool anymore) for the boys. Randy's school supplies should be at the school. We did the pre-buy for them. Then there are orientations and open houses and such. I haven't even gotten Robin's schedule and he starts next Friday! The parent orientations are either next Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night depending on what team your child's on and I don't even know that. Robin has orientation next Wednesday from 9-11am. I'll have a house full of kids so getting him there will be fun. Then transportation didn't have our new address (thanx to the middle school not changing it in their computer) so they put him on a bus by the old house. I called to get that changed and they said the closest bus stop was over a mile away! I called and ended up talking to the special transportation supervisor and he said there's a stop one street over from us that goes to the high school first and then to the middle school that Robin can ride. He also said if that doesn't work out since Robin has an IEP we can request special transportation and they'd work something out where a bus would stop on our street and the other kids that live around here could ride it, too because they like to incorporate all the kids together. UGH!!! I'll be so glad once they're all in school and we get our routine worked out. I'll have one all day kindy kid that I'll drop off and pick up at Randy's school and then a 1st and 3rd grader at the same school three days a week, after school only. That will leave a just turned 2yo and an almost 3yo here all day every day and a 3 1/2mo here from 8:30 to about noon every day. With just three here in the mornings and two in the afternoons it should be pretty quiet. Of course days there's no school will be a different story! lol Then I'll have 8 kids, ages 3 1/2mo to 12, 7 boys and one lonely girl (the 1st grader). She okay with that, though. She gets along great with my boys and her brother (most of the time, of course). Another year, another adventure...

Dang your kids go back to school really early. Michigan passed a new law kids cannot go back until after labor day. Ours start on the 5th of Sept.

This is very early to go back to school. Ds's school starts 8/11 and I thought that was very early. Although, I'd be willing to start the first week in Aug. if they got out earlier in May. The weather is better in May - Aug. is just miserable and he doesn't want to go outside much anyway. Ds is in soccer camp this week from 8 am to 12 pm. If it weren't for the rain to cool them off I'm not sure he and his friends would make it out there on the field.

Mine go back on the 14th. We've had a good summer and I like having them home, but I desperately miss the structure and routine of the school year. It helps me so much! :)

Our area goes back on Aug. 14th as well.

By Marcia on Monday, July 24, 2006 - 04:16 pm:

Wow, mine have only been off 3.5 weeks. They don't go back until after Labour Day.

Mine were done with schoon on June 10th and don't go back until September 5th. Like Tonya, they passed a law that school can't start until after Labor Day, becuase all the tourist places want their help to stay THROUGH Labor Day weekend.

We got out the last week of May. We also get two weeks in October, 2 1/2 weeks at Christmas and two weeks for spring break, plus every time I turn around it seems like the kids have a day or two off here or there for no good reason! lol I'm okay with that. The little breathers are good for the kids, especially Robin.

Oh, we get Thanksgiving week off this year, too. :)

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 - 10:11 am:

Wow, that's a lot of "weeks" off! We only get Thurs/Fri off at Thanksgiving, and a Thursday/Friday off in October, for teacher's convention. Christmas is a day or so ahead of christmas, Christmas week, and then right back at it, after New Year's!
