Spotting after menopause?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2006: Spotting after menopause?
By Tink on Monday, June 26, 2006 - 10:14 pm:

My mom went into the doctor today to discuss the rash, etc. that she has on her breast that was scarily similar to the symptoms listed for IBC. The doctor prescribed some antibiotics and wants to see it in a week to do a biopsy. He was much more concerned to hear that she is spotting every once in a while, even though she went through menopause about five years ago. He scheduled a full blood work-up, a pelvic ultrasound and a biopsy and wanted them done this week. Do any of you that have had "female trouble" know why this is any kind of problem? She didn't even have a chance to let him know that this has happened several times in the last year so now she's worried that she may have let this go on too long. Any BTDT stories or suggestions of what could be causing this? Thanks.

My grandmom went through menopause and continued to have spotting, she eventually had a hysterectomy, and when they went in they couldn't believe she had never been DXed with endometreosis, because it was that severe, which apparently was causing the abnormal bleeding. ((((Hugs)))) to your mom... let us know how she's doing!!

My grandma had a hysterectomy a few years ago (I want to say about 1999 when she was 73) I am not all that sure why but she actually had periods, possibly b/c of some of the hormone therapy, not sure. She is all okay now.

Well menopause, means menses stop..right...so maybe she wasn't fully through with it!

No stories, but at least she is at the doc now and will get to the bottom of this!

Tink, he probably wants to rule out uterine cancer. Spotting after menopause is one of the symptoms, but spotting can mean a million other things too, so she shouldn't panic. He's just being thorough. Hope your mom can relax until all of her testing is done.

Thanks, everyone. I'm really glad that her doctor didn't just let her act like it was no big deal and I think they are trying to rule out any type of cancer also. I just wondered what other problems could cause spotting when she'd gone through menopause so long ago.
